German Fabian Wegmann (Gerolsteiner) won the GP Miguel Indurain in Spain powering past Italian Michael Albasini in the final sprint.
Joaquim Rodriguez was the top Spaniard finishing third at two seconds behind the winning pace, with compatriot David Herrero Llorente in third.
Colombia's Leonardo Duque led the second group finishing in seventh at six seconds behind Wegmann.
A three-man break-away built a six minute lead before being easily drawn back in near the end of the 199-km race.
Gerolsteiner and Caisse d'Epargne dominated the final sprint, preventing late attack attempts from Vladimir Efimkin (Ag2r) and Chris Sorensen (CSC) from gaining any traction.
Mountain goat Wegmann, who won the race two years ago, impressed on the final third category climb up to the finish line at Basílica de El Puy in order to take his second GP Miguel Indurain.
