Alexander: Title in Gers' hands

Mon 05 May, 01:00 PM

Keeper Neil Alexander admits Rangers need maximum points from their next two home SPL games to get their title challenge back on track. The Light Blues' hopes of wresting the championship from Celtic took a dent after they dropped two points against Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday.

Rangers cut the champions' lead at the top of the table to seven points but now they have only three games in hand over the Parkhead club, starting with Motherwell on Wednesday followed by the visit of the Dundee United on Saturday.

And Alexander insists maximum points from those two games are required before they look to win their remaining SPL fixtures.

He said: "Hibs made it very difficult for us and to be honest if anyone looked like scoring it was them on the break.

"But we have two home games in a row so we will roll our sleeves up.

"We know our job, we need to take maximum points from now until the end of the season but we are looking forward to it.

"I think there will be some twists and turns in the title race.

"Hibs have to go to Parkhead next week and they will have a few players back and if they play like they did against us then Celtic are going to find it tough.

"But we know it is in our own hands. If we win every game then we are champions so we are fully focused on what we have to do.

"It is up to us to answer all the questions."

Hibernian midfielder Filipe Morais, however, claimed the Ibrox men, who began a programme of eight games in 21 days at Easter Road, looked fatigued and insists the Leithers should have taken advantage.

He said: "I thought Rangers were really tired and at half-time we felt that they were there for the taking. "I felt confident as did my team-mates and we should have taken advantage of their tiredness. We could have exposed them more.

"I think a point was a good result for them but they might think the opposite.

"The Old Firm are both good sides. Rangers have been doing well all season and Celtic are coming on strong.

"I'm sure it is going right to the wire."
