Stimson begins summer clearout

Mon 05 May, 05:30 PM

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has revealed at least four players are likely to leave the club as they prepare for life in League Two.The Gills were relegated after defeat at Leeds on Saturday and Stimson has informed strikers Georges Ba and Leroy Griffiths and goalkeeper Derek Stillie that they will be shown the door, while on-loan midfielder Kevin Maher is unlikely to sign a permanent deal.

He told the club's official website: "I think Kevin is a talented player but he is only on loan and I don't think we'll be able to persuade him to come and join us as I think there are a couple of League One clubs after him.

"Georges Ba will not be kept next season and possibly Leroy Griffiths as well, while Derek Stillie will also probably leave us.

"Everyone else (in the squad at Leeds) I would like to keep here next season and work with them. We'll add one or two players and with some younger players coming through, that will improve the squad and we can attack League Two."

Stimson is set to meet with his squad on Tuesday - and revealed he expects to tie up new deals with goalkeeper Simon Royce and defender Danny Cullip, adding: "There should hopefully be some positive news coming out of the club next week."
