Giro d'Italia - Cavendish heads Columbia squad

Britain's Mark Cavendish was named at the head of American cycling team Columbia for the Giro d'Italia, which begins on Saturday.

The 23-year-old from the Isle of Man, who won two stages in last year's race, will be supported by fellow sprint specialist Mark Renshaw of Australia.

Norway's Edvald Boasson Hagen, who won last month's Gand-Wevelgem, is also in the team, alongside Italy's Marco Pinotti - who wore the pink jersey as race leader for four days during the 2007 Giro - and Sweden's Thomas Lovkvist.

I think Cav has the reputation of being 'big­ headed' because every single journalist he is­ interviewed by asks him/puts the words in his mouth to­ gaurantee him to say ' i am the fastest man in the­ world'. Just read cycle sport or cycling weekly­ fanzines and its in there every issue. It'll be­ interesting if/when Theo Bos can get a handle on being­ a roadie, then we will see some amazing sprint­ finishes.

  5. It is a good thing they are bringing­ Barry,Hagen,Lovkvist and Pinotti to tote is @#$% up to­ the finish line. Brits worship this kid like he is the­ second coming.
