Carlisle starlet Gary Madine has agreed a new three-year contract at Brunton Park keeping him at the club until the end of the 2010/11 season. The 17-year-old striker is considered one of the brightest prospects at the club and has reportedly attracted interest from Premier League champions Manchester United and Newcastle.

Madine scored 27 times for the club's youth and reserve teams last season and made his first-team debut at the end of last season.

He told BBC Radio Cumbria: "It's nice to have the security and I'm looking forward to next season. I don't think a move to a big club at this stage of my career would be right for me.

"I will get more of a chance to play here and I think my career will progress better staying at Carlisle at the moment."

The tall forward was quick to praise youth-team coach Eric Kinder for his rapid rise through the ranks and feels his best chance to improve as a player is to stay with the League One outfit.

"Eric has been brilliant," he added. "He's looked after me, anything I've needed to see him about his door has always been open."
