Winger Garry Thompson has admitted he agonised over his decision to quit Morecambe for League One outfit Scunthorpe United.Thompson had been at Christie Park for nine seasons but turned down a record offer to stay with the Shrimps.
He attracted interest from several clubs but decided to move to Glanford Park where he signed a three-year deal.
Thompson told the Morecambe Visitor: "It was a big decision to leave Morecambe but an easy one to join Scunthorpe. I know I am leaving one good footballing team to join another one here.
"Morecambe wanted to keep me and it was a hard decision to leave after nine years there, but I decided for my own career that it was time to move on.
"For me it is a step up moving into League One - but hopefully I will only experience it for one season and hopefully before the end of my three-year contract I will be playing at Championship level."
