Santa Cruz Claims United Interest

Thu 05 Jun, 05:09 PM

Roque Santa Cruz has revealed that Manchester United are in the hunt to sign him.

The 26-year-old had a scintillating maiden campaign in England, bagging 23 goals following his move from Bayern Munich.

Now, despite having three-years left on his current deal, he is being linked with a big-money move away from Ewood Park.

Speaking in Paraguay, where he is preparing for World Cup duty, Santa Cruz revealed that United were after him.

Santa Cruz told La Nacion: "The interest from Manchester United is real but I'm busy now so my representatives will handle anything if there is a concrete offer."

United are thought to have been monitoring Santa Cruz for a number of months, but they are not likely to be alone in making a move - with Mark Hughes looking likely to show an interest in his former charge.

Hughes sealed his own move away from Blackburn on Wednesday when he agreed to take charge at Manchester City.

And one of his first moves could very well be to go back for Santa Cruz.

  1. Santa Cruz will be a better buy than Berbatov, Huntelaar & Benezma.
Firstly, he scored more than berbatov, and he has already adapted to english football, and we're unsure huntelaar or benezma will do so as easily.
Manu really needs another striker, they can't just rely on Tevez and rooney. perhaps they can swap Saha for Santa Cruzm whcih is a good way

  2. the only player united need to play on the left in the famous no7 red shirt is ronaldo, he will not let usdown ,he will stay as he is at the greatest team on the planet.
we do not need a striker ,we need an attacking strong and phisical midfielder like keane was .

  3. let Ronaldo go !! buy Messi from Barcelona as replacement. Ronaldo will regret leaving
Man Utd for Real Madrid he will be a flop at Real. If he doesn't appreciate what Man Utd has done for him, raise him to fame from nobody to somebody. He will never get notice if Man utd has not go for him. Then let him go.........he will be in for a REAL shocker of his life.

  4. Can anyone please explain the difference between Real Madrid showing interest in Ronaldo, and United theatening to report them to F.I.F.A.for that interest being made public; and United showing "interest" in Roque Santa Cruz without any comebacks or threats from Rovers. Is it "do as I say, and not do as I do?". We all know the unsettling effect that Chelsea's "interest" had on Benny McCarthy's form last Season.
Santa Cruz states that the "interest" is real, so there must have been contact of some kind, along with there being two sets of rules at work, the "Mega rich" rules and the "also ran" rules.

  9. as a life long United fan i agree that an all out and out striker but i dont think that bebra or benzema would fit man utd. some one like Jan Klass Huntelaar would fit the team better i think, because of his pace and ability on counter attacks, something that berba lack because he is too slow, and benzema is too selfish

  10. Berbetov will never be better than King Eto'o! Please, Alex I never heard you say something about this goal poacher. if guys like drog could make impacts in the premiere league,Eto'o is a record breaker wherever he goes,go for him. in recent times, which striker in europe have ever missed close to 5 months in a season, managed to score 16 league goals ! above all, he participated in the african nations cup, cracking the previous all time goal records, man utd go for him you will never regret it. eight consecutive yrs he is outstanding.

  11. i understant the fascination with berba, but for me he's too slow he would never live with the attention the famous red shirt would bring.what about lyon's karem benamza?he is quicker,stronger-he wont be cheaper but wouldn't have that chip that berba carries on his shoulder with pride.steve,manchester.

  12. I agree, we need a player like Berbatov, an all out and out srtiker, lose saha and get him, would be a big influance to the team. we sign him and we could very well see the dream of the treble come a reailty...

  13. The only player at this time who would benefit Manchester United and has all the skills to play along the forward line plus the vision and speed of thought is Berbatov, this artist was born to play at Old Trafford, his skills are unique, don't lose out on him, sell the town hall clock to get him, supporters would be able to relax as the results rolled in. Neal Massey, BURY.
