Force India defects, lodges 2010 entry

Fri, 05 Jun 07:15:01 2009

Like suspended member Williams, Force India has broken ranks with the FOTA teams' alliance and unconditionally signed up to contest the 2010 world championship.

The move, reported by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, leaves just eight current teams, including top outfits Ferrari and McLaren, threatening to sit out next season over the budget cap rules dispute with FIA President Max Mosley.

The eight teams had no official meetings planned for Istanbul, but Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali was on Thursday spotted entering the FIA motor home for a sit-down with Mosley's representative Alan Donnelly.

The Italian then moved on to the McLaren building. Mosley, and the FOTA Chairman Luca di Montezemolo, are not in Turkey this weekend.

Auto Motor und Sport reports that Brawn GP, which like Williams and Force India is an independent outfit that would likely welcome the budget cap's cost-limiting function, is not going to also defect.

"The recent proposal of the teams makes a great many concessions to the FIA," Ross Brawn is quoted as saying. "The result would be the same as Mosley's budget limit."

BMW's Mario Theissen on Thursday agreed that the proposal is similar to the budget cap, although the 'name' would have to change.

  1. If Brawns do not take up the budget cap after the negotiation fail, I will be extremely surprise. By saying that the FOTA's proposal has the same effect as budget cap, then it means which ever direction F1 takes, it will be fine for Brawns. In one week time, we will see what happen. Who is going to compromise? FIA or FOTA? If dame Max stood hard, what will happen to the remaining 7 teams (minus Brawns)

  2. FOTA could probably afford (and expect) to lose one or two of the small teams. Those small teams now will be giants under the new downgraded F1. The big test is for the Manufacturers to hold firm. Without Ferrari, Mclaren, BMW. Renault, Toyota etc F1 is finished and Ecclestone knows that. Mosley will be trying to split the manufacturers - I'm concerned that Mclaren might be bribed to split in the same way that Ferrari were, in the last Teams v Mosley battle. Ron Dennis still wields influence at Mclaren though and he certainly won't want them to give in to Mosley again. A compromise is still the best result but given the choice, I'd rather see F1 mercifully killed off and reborn under a new banner, rather than F1 to continue to ail under Mosleys deathgrip.

  3. This is my final comment on thi forum...I always said that there was the space shuttle...and then came the Formula 1 cars. They are still true pieces of art..top to bottom of the grid. But now I come here and all I read and hear about is political bul%#$&t. All of the infighting is what killed opem wheel racing in USA, and dont think for one second it cant happen over the rest of the world. Diluted productleaves the consumer with a bad taste, and if this is not ended soon, the fans willturn their backs on the whole scene. I for 1, am going to build myself a new shifter cart and go have some fun again...Good-By F1

  4. @ SS_A9X. All the FOTA members (including Force India) submitted their entries in time but with conditions attached. Force India have just changed their existing entry to an unconditional one. That doesn't alter the fact that the entry was in time.

  6. 35.since 1993 up to 2007 i was an avid F1 viewers I'm not a fan of particular driver but i really love to watch from practice to race day i even having argument with my wife if she asked me to go shopping or visiting our friends. Every Sunday here in Paris I don't want to go out I prepare myself watching TF1 for the race I used to eat my lunch earlier so i can laydown in our sofa and watch calmly but for now I hate to watch it I focused my attention in MotoGP and NASCAR thats make fell better. F1 is not clean now a bunch of politics. Thank you guys hope you understand my sentiment...
