Ding had lost his opening match of tournament on Thursday to wild card Li Hang but then won four in a row to book a semi-final meeting with Marco Fu as the Hong Kong potter beat Jin Long 2-0 in his final match to finish second in group two.

Shaun Murphy topped that group as he enjoyed a 2-1 win over Ali Carter in his final match and will next face Mark Allen who finished second in group one on frame difference after concluding with a 2-0 over Peter Ebdon.

Mark Selby failed to qualify after losing his last three matches but there was some consolation for him as he produced his first ever maximum in a 2-1 defeat to Joe Perry.

MORNING SESSION

Shaun Murphy defeated Mark Selby 2-0 at the Jiangsu Classic to lead Group Two with just one round left to play in the pool stages.

Selby's 2-1 loss to Marco Fu, added to his defeat to Murphy, places him below the Hong Kong cueman, who moves into second spot.

Fu beat Ali Carter 2-0 with a top break of 81 and like Murphy has won three matches from four.

Murphy faces Carter in their final group-stage match, while Fu will compete against Jin Long and Selby against Joe Perry.

Perry is third alongside Selby.

In Group One, Ryan Day's 2-1 victory over Stephen Hendry - who managed a 102 break - put him top ahead of defending champion and home player Ding Junhui, who downed Peter Ebdon 2-1.

Li Hang lost for the first time at the tournament, 2-0 to Mark Allen, and is now third. Li faces Hendry last of all, while Day plays Ding.

The top two in each group will go through to Saturday's semi-finals.

Ryan Day 2-1 Stephen Hendry

Allister Carter 0-2 Marco Fu
