Premier League - Barton wants to stay at Newcastle

Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton is eager to stay with the club following their relegation from the Premier League.

The former Manchester City player was told to stay away from Newcastle's training ground in the wake of their 3-0 defeat at Liverpool late in the season, after he was red-carded.

Barton told The Chronicle: "I don't know what is going to happen with the club or with the manager situation."

He continued: "I'm just looking forward to going back and my intention is to stay at the club and help Newcastle back into the Premier League.

"If Alan Shearer takes the job and if he doesn't want me then my hands are tied. All I can do is try and get as fit as possible, but I have got to prepare for all eventualities."

    Give Joe Another Chance. I think now maybe He has­ learnt his lesson.
    He is a great player as from­ watching him play for some years now . He has now or­ should know the difference between good and bad. WE are­ going to need all the help we can get to go back where­ Newcastle belong.Once the heads of departments are­ sorted out

By the way, I­ hope both Barton and Owen are still with you come the­ start of next season, there's got to be a good­ chance coz there's absolute zero sign of any­ interest in them - Barton can a steward in the away­ section (that way he can hit out whenever he wants and­ nothing will be done about it) and Owen could be one of­ the ball boys (provided he's allowed to sit on­ stool so that he doesn't hurt his knees).
