The former Manchester City player was told to stay away from Newcastle's training ground in the wake of their 3-0 defeat at Liverpool late in the season, after he was red-carded.

Barton told The Chronicle: "I don't know what is going to happen with the club or with the manager situation."

He continued: "I'm just looking forward to going back and my intention is to stay at the club and help Newcastle back into the Premier League.

"If Alan Shearer takes the job and if he doesn't want me then my hands are tied. All I can do is try and get as fit as possible, but I have got to prepare for all eventualities."

  4. Ofcourse he wants to stay, he's on £63k a week but is pretending to play the "loyalty" card!!

Same as Duff, he claims he's being loyal and that he wants to stay, nothing to do with his astronomical wages then??

  5. One thing about Joey Barton is for sure, he's got balls the size of the moon to think that he still deserves a place in football after the shenanigans he's pulled off this year. I was all for giving him another chance until he proved yet again with his latest Red card that he's just not mentally fit for anything out side of the mob as a bully boy.

Like it not, you're stuck with him. No-one else would want him, you can't afford the financial hit of giving him a free so por sad old boring Mary Poppins will have to eat his words if he is to be your Manager for next season. You'll have to build your team around him!! So sad, it almost makes want to cry. A little ditty to cheer myself up ...
He's only a poor little Magpie,
His feathers all tattered and torn,
His team's down and out, spat his dummy out,
