Manchester City are alleged to be preparing bids for Samuel Eto'o, Diego Forlan and Carlos Tevez, but do you think they are doing the right thing?
After all this, City will have more players than positions, which would be fine except these players are all the kind of guys who would expect to start every game, especially at a club like City who are not playing in Europe.
So who will make way? Mark Hughes is almost certainly going to cut his losses on perma-crock Craig Bellamy, while Micah Richards could make way for Kolo Toure after failing to live up to early promise.
And what about Robinho? With Eto'o, Forlan and Tevez, will City play a 4-3-3 and rotate the four or will they sell the volatile Brazilian?
Also, what will happen to the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips and Martin Petrov if City switch to a midfield three?
Is it a positive attempt to build a title-challenging team or wild, profligate spending with no real strategy? Should they tear the current squad apart or try to build on last season with a couple of signings and focus on improving team-work? Have your say by clicking on the link below the photo our message boards!
Doddy: "It's ok scoring goals but the defence needs to stop letting in silly goals so buy some good defenders! The midfield is the most important area, we need width and a good holding player. You have to get - and keep - the ball before you can score so play 4-4-2 not 4-3-3 as the extra attacker means a narrower midfield and leaves our flanks open. We also need some height for the set-pieces or crosses."
Yip (a Chelsea fan): "I think they will sign a striker and then concentrate the rest of the market time on defence. Which is fair enough. If they sign even a couple of the players they are linked with they could easily win the league next season. Can I ask everyone who claims to see players at airports and stuff to stop talking such ****, it never once came true. Pointless drivel!"
Khairyazlan: "Forget Eto'o, just target Tevez and Forlan, both of these players already know english football. City must focus on defending too. I think Gary Cahill, Joleon Lescott, and Steven Taylor are suited enough and their price also not too expensive. My first eleven choice is GK: Given; CB: Onuoha, Cahill; LB: Bridge; RB: Richards; CM: De Jong, Barry, Ireland; LW: Robinho; RWF: Tevez/SWP; CF: Forlan/Bellamy."
victash4real: "It isn't about making hasty purchases without thinking out what formation the team will be playing. What makes Man City think they can get such high-profile players when they are not playing in Europe next season? Maybe the Kaka lesson is not enough for them to know that not all players that are after the money, which is the only thing City have to offer."
azim110894: "I think Sparky will get one more Super Striker, my guess is Tevez then he'll get a secondary striker to fill in as a replacement in case of injuries. But in case he wants to switch 4-3-3 he'll get Eto'o. If I were Sparky,I'd get Higuain though."
concerned: "1 Get rid of Hughes and his so called coaches. 2. A world class central defender is required. 3. A world class goalscoring centre forward."
garethtait1: "Why? Diego Forlan? Now Lucas Neill too! Gosh this is a lack of ambition and I am sure Forlan could score goals but he's getting old now. I don't understand this Man City, the club with unlimited transfer funds it seems and they want to sign Forlan why? Eto and Tevez would be good captures Mark Hughes should pursue these two but Lucas Neill and Forlan come on..."
rgold85 (An Arsenal fan): "I wouldn't be surprised if Manchester city end up signing Kaka because last year Chelsea looked the favourites to sign Robhino and then City stole him. I do hope they sign Tevez he's a great striker and I love watching him play football."
