Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is available for Ghana's World Cup qualifier against Mali despite missing preparations for the match to attend a court case.

2008 African Cup of Nations Ghana Michael Essien - 0

Essien has completed his cross examination in a case in which his ex-girlfriend is seeking to clarify the status of their relationship in a divorce compensation claim, the Ghana FA said on its website.

It was initially expected Essien's testimony in the Accra High Court could take several days and preclude him from making the trip to Mali for Sunday's African Zone Group D clash.

Essien will bolster Ghana's injury-hit squad after Internazionale midfielder Sulley Muntari became the latest player to withdraw injured.

Ghana won their opening game in the group in March against Benin while Mali drew with Sudan. Only the group winner will qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

  2. It is obvious that if Essien is a Nigerian he will never showed up for the match. Im proud of you Micheal. You are great in all ways. Can anybody say why Mikel, Yobo didnt show up for Eagles friendly against France? No reason and it is known as normal ethic for Mikel, i dont know about Yobo. Go on Essien and make your motherland proud.

  3. Well done Cobby. Bravo. But please fellow Ghanaians, get off Appiah and Muntari's back and let them do their thing. Find proof before accusations. Anyway, i think the coach has made a good selection although he didn't call dede ayew. Here is what i think.

These are the players he has selected

    Ghana Squad:

Goalkeepers: Richard Kingson and George Owu.

Defenders: John Mensah, John Paintsil, Samuel Inkoom, Harrison Afful, Jonathan Quartey and Eric Addo

Midfielders: Michael Essien, Kwadwo Asamoah, Anthony Annan, Moussa Narry, Samuel Kyere, Bernard Kumordzi, Haminu Draman and Isaac Vorsah.

Strikers: Prince Tagoe, Opoku Agyeman, Junior Agogo, Joetex Frimpong, Ernest Papa Arko and Matthew Amoah.

    So upon this, i suggest:

    --------------------------------------R Kingston

    -------------------------J Mensah--------------J Quartey

    J Paintsil----------------------------------------------- ------------------H Afful

    -------------------------------------A Annan

    I Vorsah------------------------------------------------- -----------K Asamoah

    ------------------------------------M Essien

    ----------------------P Tagoe-----------------J Agogo.

  6. Michael has demonstrated his mental toughness by defying the traumatic experiences he's going though to play for mother Ghana. Micheal, for this bravado and patriotism alone God will shame your detractors and make you play one of the best matches ever. We love you. If Dela thinks you're the only man she can marry in this world of million men then she's way adrift of time.
