Cole keen to learn from Drogba

Fri 05 Jun, 03:36 PM

Carlton Cole has been picking Didier Drogba's brains in a bid to become an England regular.

The West Ham striker, 25, is part of Fabio Capello's squad for England's World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan after a successful season at Upton Park.

But with the likes of Emile Heskey and Peter Crouch also competing for that target-man position, Cole is determined to keep improving.

And that quest has taken him to see Drogba, his former Chelsea team-mate, and Aston Villa's Norway international John Carew.

"I talk to Didier a lot and he feels that I can progress even further than I have and I am happy that he thinks of me highly," said Cole, who scored 12 goals for the Hammers last term.

"I talk to John Carew as he scores goals wherever he goes. Hopefully I can do that one day."

  1. Why has Darren Bent lost it? He was the dog's boll........ three years back, could Zola work wonders on him. Curbs had a lot of belief in this guy, he made a big, big mistake going to Spurs where the manager never rated him. If we need another striker, could he be turnedaround like Cole?

  2. Carlton Cole should learn whatever he can from whoever's kind enough to advise him. He is still far from the finished article, however he improved hugely this season having gained a regular place in the team, something he would never get at Chelsea and almost didn't get at West Ham. If Bellamy and Ashton had been available and in form he wouldn't have got a look in, despite that he proved a good 'stop gap' and has probably moved ahead of Ashton as West Ham's best srtiker. Whether Ashton is ever going to find his old form remains to be seen; he was overweight at the beginning of last season and will probably be again if he ever gets back in the first team. In the meantime Cole will benefit from talking to his 'wnderful team mates' in the England camp, who are both black and white (Heskey, Crouch, Dafoe etc). Get the message foyz_1991? Get a grip; its 2009 not 1979!

  4. Its a shame Carlton wasn't prepared to be patient and wait for his chance at Chelsea. When Drogba leaves he would be a good replacement. It would also have given him the opportunity to train with Drogba daily. Much like Glenn Johnson(linked with a move back to chelsea) the move away has done these players the world of good, but i think chelsea should have been a bit cuter and given them a few games a season to keep them happy. Hopefully Johnson comes back, i thought when he left he looked the most promising right back in the country.

  5. foyz_1991, Because non of his wonderful team mates are world class strikers, why do you make such imbecilic comments.
I don't like Cole's comment that Carew scores goals wherever he goes and he wants to be just like that!
Does that mean he wants to be a football mercenary moving from the highest payer to the highest payer like Bellamy. West Ham need loyalty not want aways if they improve and become wanted.

  10. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

He better look up to someone like Fernando Morientes and Nicholas Anelka and not Didier Drogba. He's just an over hyped diving cheat...
