Hughes fancies Swansea job

Fri 05 Jun, 08:38 PM

Falkirk boss John Hughes says he is "very interested" in becoming Swansea's next manager - if Roberto Martinez completes his move to Wigan.

Martinez is expected to be unveiled by the Latics early next week, following Steve Bruce's switch to Barclays Premier League rivals Sunderland. Hughes, a former Swansea striker, took Falkirk into the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and kept them there - while steering them to this season's Homecoming Scottish Cup final.

He told BBC Wales: "I'm contracted to Falkirk, I'm enjoying my job at Falkirk and it would have to be an official approach for anything else to happen. It's a massive club, I had a great time at Swansea when I was there.

"I'm flattered to be linked with such a good club, a wonderful city and really warm people. I would be very interested if the approach was official."

Hughes has also been linked with the vacant Aberdeen and Hibernian jobs but could be lured to a club he spent a year with as a player.

Earlier, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told the Daily Record: "I know John was down here as a player. As things stand it is a bit too early at this stage to put him on any list. But John is definitely somebody we know and I wouldn't rule him in or out."
