Andy Robinson has revealed how he became convinced a year ago Scotland could be transformed from RBS 6 Nations strugglers into title contenders.
Robinson, 45, was on Thursday unveiled as head coach of the national side just over two months after Frank Hadden lost his job.
"I worked with the Scotland team in Argentina last year and I saw the enthusiasm and work ethic, and also the potential that the players have," said Robinson. "Having worked with Edinburgh as well and having coached the Scotland A side, I really feel it's a side that - I keep reiterating the word - is full of potential and I'm excited about working with that potential."
Robinson, who has signed a three-year contract, has vowed to instil a "winning mindset" in his new side.
And under the Robinson regime, excuses will not be tolerated.
"Part of my coaching philosophy is empowering the players to understand that they're in control of whether we win or lose," he added.
"It's not down to the opposition, it's not down to the bounce of the ball, the referee or the conditions.
"So it's about getting the players to buy into that and understand that."

I think he can probably do a job so long as the SRU let him do the job without interference. Take note old boys, old worthies and other forms of assorted old school tie types in the SRU - let the national coach do the job you pay him for and stop interfering.
Robinson in a new structure???? Nonsence!!!!!! A complete overhaul is required. Who is Gordon Mckie?
I thought Hadden was doing ok but then i`m not a Scot fan.But give Robo a chance a least, thats what sport is about in`it?
Now he is dealing with a different rfu structure.
What a poor appointment! Another case of short sightedness. He failed miserably with a world class pool of English players. We don't have that luxury. Jobs for the boys! He must be a mason.
