Latics boss eyes raid for Kapo

Sat 05 Jul, 03:45 PM

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce is set to return to his former club Birmingham City in a bid to sign Blues' French midfielder Olivier Kapo.Kapo could follow Daniel De Ridder, who joined the Latics from Birmingham earlier this week after having his St Andrews contract cancelled "by mutual consent".

Bruce signed Kapo for Birmingham from Juventus in a £3million deal last summer and could offer Wigan striker Antoine Sibierski plus cash for Kapo, who is also a target for French giants Marseille.

Both Kapo and Sibierski are represented by agent Willie McKay.

He told the Wigan Observer: "Steve Bruce is a big admirer of Olivier having worked with him before and would like to bring him to Wigan, while Marseille hope they can bring him back to France.

"I believe Wigan are prepared to offer some players in exchange to try and persuade Birmingham to do a deal."

Kapo looks to be on his way out of St Andrews after failing to turn up for pre-season training for Birmingham earlier this week.

The midfielder has apparently stayed in France to have surgery on his hand.
