Oba open to Gunners option

Sat 05 Jul, 09:15 AM

Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins has admitted he would find it hard to turn down a move to Arsenal if they attempted to sign him.The Nigerian has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium throughout the summer, and speculation over a potential transfer would increase further if Gunners striker Emmanuel Adebayor completes a switch to Barcelona.

"Arsenal is a big club that everyone wants to play for. I am thrilled and it will be nice to play for such a team," the 23-year-old told The Sun.

"But, now that I am a Newcastle player, there is nothing much to say. If it is true, both clubs would have to reach an agreement.

"Is Arsenal a good club? Yes. Would I love to play there? Probably, if Newcastle are ready to listen to them. But if Newcastle says no, then it'll be no."

Martins, currently on holiday, added: "Because I still have a contract, I expect the club to speak to me when I get back. I am not saying I want to go but, if anything happens, that's football."

  1. As a Newcastle fan i would be gutted to see Oba leave. However, it sounds like he wants to go, and i agree 100% that with proper world class players alongside him, such as Fabragas and Van Persie, you would see more from him.

  2. Arsene Wenger is a very good and world class coach. There is no doubt about it. So I think that best of Martins will be seem in Arsenal because Arsene Wenger will chisel out the best in OBAGOAL. Martins is without doubt a top stiker with skill, agility and speed. He is sure to be one of the top scorers in the Premiership when he moves to Arsenal next season and combines with the likes of Fabregas and other good players in Aresnal. MARTINS, wishing you the best of your football career in Arsenal for I will love to see you play for Arsenal come August 16th, 2008. All the same remain calm and cool headed as ever and wait for what both Clubs make out of their deliberations. I know it may not be easy for Newcastle to let him go but with luck on his side, I think, wish and pray that Martins leaves Newcastle now and join Arsenal in order to resuscistate his dwindling career. GOOD LUCK MARTINS! Decency from Deutschland.

  5. i think he should join arsenal/.... because arsene wenger will give him a chance and he might shine in the champions league and it will be great for him rather than in newcastle
