Oldham defender John Thompson is expected to return to full training next week following his long injury lay-off.The Republic of Ireland international had surgery in March to repair knee ligament damage, playing his last game in the 1-1 home draw with Millwall.

The 26-year-old was restricted to just 11 appearances for John Sheridan's side following his switch from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2007.
