Martins Tempted By Gunners Switch

Sat 05 Jul, 08:09 AM

Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins has admitted he would find it hard to turn down Arsenal if they attempted to sign him.

The Nigerian has been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium throughout the summer, and speculation over a potential transfer would increase further if Gunners striker Emmanuel Adebayor completes a switch to Barcelona.

"Arsenal is a big club that everyone wants to play for. I am thrilled and it will be nice to play for such a team," the 23-year-old told The Sun.

"But, now that I am a Newcastle player, there is nothing much to say. If it is true, both clubs would have to reach an agreement.

"Is Arsenal a good club? Yes. Would I love to play there? Probably, if Newcastle are ready to listen to them. But if Newcastle says no then it'll be no."

Martins, currently on holiday, added: "Because I still have a contract, I expect the club to speak to me when I get back. I am not saying I want to go but, if anything happens, that's football."

  6. anything's possible on football, Mac.. besides, arsenal's in the CL. that's the main attraction for footballers nowadays. but i just can't see how martins can fit into arsenal's style of play. they only have tall strikers who plays alone up front..

  9. If money is the only way to keep star footballers in the club then we might just as well sell them as they have no loyalty to the club at all. What these players seem to forget is that it is the Club that has put them where they are today. No amount of money has made transferred players as great with another club. We have to admire what Arsene Wenger has done, not just for the Club but for football itself and the players that he has created.

  11. Go on Wenger . Even if Adebayor stays you still need, you still need two more good strikers. First Martin's then Villa, Arshavin.... But don't forget one or two defenders as well. Learn from last season ! Premier league and champions league glory soon.
