Premier League - Transfer Talk: Pistol Pete

Eurosport - Sun, 06 Jul 12:23:00 2008

Liverpool are annoying, aren't they? Comically low offers and huge valuations of their own players are either good sense or total hogwash.

2007-2008 Liverpool Peter Crouch - 0

Fresh from bidding £50,000 plus Charles Itandje for Gareth Barry, they reckon Peter Crouch and his nine Premier League starts are worth £15 million.

Shrewd operator Harry Redknapp would normally have none of it, but it seems he has been so bamboozled he will stump up £11m to bring the gangly 'hitman' back to Portsmouth.

Rafa Benitez will next turn his attentions to Robbie Keane, for whom he will offer twenty quid plus a signed copy of Stevie G's autobiography.

To hell with a scouting network, says Sunderland manager Roy Keane. Bunch of jumped-up focaccia-munchers.

Keano will continue his quest to field an entire squad made up of Irishmen, former Manchester United players and Trinidad and Tobago internationals with the £10m double signing of Reading's Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt.

On a similar tip, Keane is also after former Newcastle player Damien Duff and United crock Louis Saha.

Aaron Ramsey signed for Arsenal because Arsene Wenger cut his holiday short to show him where the toilets at the Emirates Stadium are located.

Samir Nasri has no intention of extending a similar courtesy to the Gunners, and will not sign until he is back from 10 days at Club 18-30.

Mikel Arteta is good. Too good for Everton. Or at least that's what Atletico Madrid think.

They will test the Toffees with a £12m bid, tempting the silky midfielder with the offer of an agonising Champions League qualifying round exit.

Manchester City like the cut of Turkey international Colin 'Kazim Kazim' Kazim-Richards' jib.

They will fight tooth-and-nail with loveable Serie A underachievers Lazio to see which light blue shirt the Fenerbahce man will be wearing this season.

Danish forward Peter Lovenkrands has pace to burn - enough pace to tempt Stoke City into making a cheeky bid to prise him away from Schalke.

Potters boss Tony Pulis also likes Ipswich striker Jon Walters enough to bid £1.5m for him.

Remember Fredrik Stoor? He was the mediocre Swedish right-back who only got a game at Euro 2008 when the 36-year-old Niclas Alexandersson was injured.

Well strap yourselves in, Fulham fans, because the worryingly Scandinavian-obsessed Woy Hodgson could be making a £1.3m bid for the Rosenborg man.

Emile Mpenza could also be letting himself in for a relegation battle if he surrenders to the charms of Hull City . He is on trial at the Tigers' alpine training camp along with South Africa international Delron Buckley.

Steve Bruce likes Olivier Kapo. He took him to Birmingham, now he wants him at Wigan. Maybe it's because the former Juve man's name is an anagram of 'Poke ravioli'.

THE TWO RONNIES

Manchester United's reaction to the claim that Real Madrid are close to striking a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo? "Laughable nonsense" with "not a shred" of truth in it. We'll see...

Meanwhile the increasingly desperate Daily Mirror think the move is "written in the stars" because Ronaldo wears seven, his name has seven letters in it and Real have offered £70m. Pathetic.

Following several months of solidly hawking Ronaldinho to anyone who will pick up the phone, Barcelona have decided to play hardball.

"Ronaldinho is a player of great value and we will only sell if we get a proper price. If we don't get it, he won't go," Barcelona vice-president Ferran Soriano said.

  2. Spurs "on the verge of greatness" ??? Haven't i heard this one before? Once, ...or twice, ...or three times..................
Although starman_123,i must admit, you're bloody funny.

  3. To all you Liverpuke fans, if you think you are getting Gareth Barry from Villa for 15M (+ Finnan) you can forget getting Robbie Keane that cheaply and without a hitch, do you really think Spurs are going to let Keane go? Whoever is suggesting this is delusional. Spurs are on the verge of greatness at the expense of Liverpuke , Arse-anal, ManUre, and Chelski.

  4. Who wrote this article? I would like to meet them and give them a jolly good punch in the face. A good review or article is fair to all sides and must try to be as far from biased as possible. Yes, Liverpool are being stubborn but they have a right to be, Crouch is a great player and worth at least £10 million and £15 million + Finnan for Gareth Barry is a fantastic offer! It may be a little too generous considering Chelsea got Deco for a fee of just £8 million. What really angered me was when he remarked 'Rafa Benitez will next turn his attentions to Robbie Keane, for whom he will offer twenty quid plus a signed copy of Stevie G's autobiography.' This man should be fired.

  6. I hope Liverpool keep Crouch,he has the ability to turn a game with his aerial prescence. The difference between Liverpool and the teams above them is that Liverpool draw too many games,13 games to Man U 6.Thats a difference of 14 points. The end gap was how many? For whatever reason Liverpool have a lean spell every season where they lose ground with the top teams. They always finish well but the damage has already been done by then.Crouch causes problems for defenders.I think Carvallho said that he hated playing against him.Get rid of Kewell,Penant,Riise and Voronin but keep CROUCH

  8. If Barry is worth £18M, then Crouch is easily worth £10M (and probably more if his contract was longer with LFC).

This article is based on the ridiculous premis that the top 4 should pay over the odds for players, whilst upcoming clubs (like Pompey) should be able to buy seasoned internationls at 'reasonable' prices.

  9. I agree Stoor had a good games in euro. 1.3 million seeems a bargain buy.

  10. Fredrik Stoor for Fulham ? Don't worry fans, Stoor could be the bargain buy of the season - Ok, he played in Euro 2008 because of Alexandersson injury, but never had a bad game and did not let his County down. Best of luck at Fulham if you get there.

  11. crouch isn't great, but his service at liverpool hasn't been all that spectacular either. they don't use him properly, when they do use him at all. if he could keep his elbows out of the way, he could score 20 goals for a club like portsmouth. i don't think 15 is that far off, but i would probably settle for 12-13 and move on. i hope this money is being spent on another striker though (robbie keane?) and not just freeing up money to buy gareth barry, who isn't worth a whole lot more than crouch, seeing how he's on the wrong side of 27. let's keep xabi alonso and buy a couple of attacking wingers, move #8 back to the middle and play our best lineup a little more often to try to win the league.

we need more quality, barry is a nice player, but other than the potential to stay healthy, is he superior to alonso? i'm not convinced of that. does anyone want to buy voronin? ponytail has to go!

our wing play has been dreadful since kewell's body gave out on him, no creativity, no quality service, no goals. kuyt is a brilliant utility player, as valuable as any player, but we need some teeth in attack (and we need to move babel closer to goal, and try to decrease the number of times he falls down to a more reasonable 25% of the time), quaresma, bentley, silva, anyone with a track record and who hasn't suddenly become 10 million more valuable based on a couple of euro 08 appearances.

all of the big clubs have vastly superior quality up front on the wings, we need players who can pin back the other teams outside players and work well with torres. please move gerrard back to the middle ~ please ~ why play a top five center midfielder out wide? if #8 plays CM for 30+ matches, we can win the title.

  15. Man U and Real Madrid are vieing for the richest and biggest club in the world. Man U should not sell CR to Real under any circumstance; and should even state that they will not sell direct to 'main rival clubs' in future. RC should be offered more money and Man U should consider sharing marketing income of key players with them. It's a brave new world in that area and my club needs to move with the times in that aspect. Also, a good striker is needed urgently regardless of CR saga.

  16. HELL TO LIVERPOOL! 15 for that bean pole? Sheesh! I can buy him in FIFA08 less than 10 million! Oh such Liver-fool....

Okay, since he manage to score some spectacular goals, and his appearance in World Cup, but 15 million is too much!

Poor Harry. I would love to see Crouch under such "GREAT" manager than that El Fatto~

The other singinings would be great, and I love to see some Reading boys to play again in the league. Kevin Doyle especially, and "The Man who Injured Cech" Steven Hunt. Woohooo!

ANd sure Fulham should sign that Sweedish, since I do not know any good and cheap right back after the Euro. Hrm...

For the Ronnies? Meh... I don't care much.... xD

  18. What's the fuss, Liverpool have the valuations spot on. Stop all this Drama Queen stuff & get on with the football, O'Neils a joke, doh!! when a player wants to leave just give up, NOT!!!!!!!!! Liverpool did everything to keep Gerrard as are UTD with Ronaldo, learn from the best O'Neil.

  19. Jose Luis, I couln't agree more with you. This guy CR7 was really impressive in those matches. No doubt about it,he definately has a lot of HATERS,but that does not bring myopia into the fact that this guy is good, people got to admit that.

  20. whoever wrote this doesnt see the true value of crouch.given playing time , like at southampton, he showed he could prove to be a formidable threat to the opposition. However when resigned to token appearances , such as at villa and liverpool, its no wonder he hasnt proved as effectual as u may want, a striker needs to get into a scoring rhythm and often requires a few game to bed down into a team. I have no doubt he will lead pompey to an even higher position in the league if he goes there as he is in the top 10 strikers in the league.
Ronaldo quite rightly deserves his pricetag of 70+ million as he scored countless goals for united las year that turned matches on their head. rooney and tevez both had below par season for players of their calibre and without ronny i doubt united would have won anything. That said no player is irreplacable and if ferguson is shrewd he would demand a vast sum plus a player exchange , sergio ramas would be ideal as united need a true sucessor to gary neville as brown is not world class. If ferguson could get ramos (p/E) villa and silva/messi with the sale of ronny that would be well worth it as man u cannot rely onn 1 player to provide their qualtiy and lack depth in areas( nani and anderson both have a few season before they will be man u class and brown is ok for the bench but def not a starter)
