Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is plotting a football revolution in Europe after calling for the continent's biggest clubs to create a new 'Super League'.
Perez, who returned for a second stint as president of the Spanish giants last month, has embarked on a multi-million spending spree over the past few weeks, signing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema as part of his plan to assemble a new generation of galacticos.
The 62-year-old is now casting his net even wider in his bid to alter the face of European football, and told Spanish television: "We have to agree a new European Super League which guarantees that the best always play the best - something that does not happen in the Champions League."
Perez added, however, that he hoped his proposed format could be implemented "without abandoning the national leagues".

One way or the other, whether we like it or not, this is where we're heading. Think about NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL and all the money that's involved. Think about having a league with the best from England, Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Money rules and the greed of those who have control is too big to stop this from happening. Get ready for Arsenal-Barca, Liverpool-AC Milan, Man United-Juventus and Chelsea-Real Madrid week after week. It may take 5, 10 or 20 years to get this done but we'll get there, mark my words.
Freaking @#$% if u ask me. Thinks no one else supports the other cllubs. STUFF YR HEAD IN THE TOILET BOWL, PEREZ, THINK OF OTHERS AS WELL!!! Of course, no offense to Madrid fans, its your "financial benefactor" that has gone lunatic and nuts and should be admitted to the Institute of Mental Health.
all of a sudden they want to create a "super league" just because they have signed some players and think that they will make a big change immediatlely they will need to grow over the next year or two.
Madrid ... your not good enough to be in a super leage !!!!! Dream on Perez!!!
HALA MADRID!
Just cuz he's so rich and can buy all the big stars, he's callin for a new league...ha ha ha, y didn't he do it last year? oh yeah i remember didn't had all the big star players!!!
UNITED FAN 4 EVA
Go on Barca beat the Real Shiterid...!!!
Barca to win the league again and again and again...!!!
These guys are nutts!
when Real Madrid win nothing next season,Perez will be looking for work, not starting a super league
The hilarious thing is that Real would be bottom in it! Let the "best teams" go. I am sick of the favouritism shown to the top teams and the strangleholds they hold on all competitions. Then maybe the national leagues and the "lesser" club competitions would become more balanced and this time share the finances equally among the teams. Oh and they should pack all the F.A.'s off because they actively pursue the policies that brought about the total distortion of football in the first place!
#85 and 86 - nice!
WHO ON EARTH DOES HE THINK HE IS UEFA DIRETOR
NO!!
who does this bloke think he is,presidents of clubs dictating, platini stuck in his narrowminded rules, man utd taking on a crock, players being sold for ridiculous money,i fear for our once great game
SUPER LEAGUE, Yes if you want to see a circus on a weekly basis, I for one would turn away from this great game.
After 5 decades of watching the greatest sport in the world, following the BEST league in the world, we are now informed that a debt ridden teams president wants a super league, sorry, not for me. My beloved MU have difficulty keeping in pace with the financial issues that abound at present. How will the lesser clubs (who will need to set their souls to compete) make a living in such a league.
This is from the team which just a few years ago had MILLIONS of debt wiped out by royal decree. They should never have been allowed to play in Europe until these debts were repaid.
Why do you want a Super League, Mr Perez? So that the best can play the best? And who said that doesn't happen in the Champions' League? Last time I checked Barca and Man Utd were the two best clubs in the world and guess what, they played the CL final. Perez should think of starting a Loser League with 2nd division teams so that they don't get thrashed by Liverpool again like last season.
Let them all f### off and start a super league, ban anyone who plays for them from International football and when their league folds, make them rejoin their national league in the lowest division. After not playing for a year.
And about time too, the EPL has become an unmitigated bore, before a ball is kicked we all know one of four teams are going to win it, and share between them the rest of the silverware too.
It's time for a level playing field again like in the '60's, '70's and early '80's were promoted teams had a fair crack at been competitive and in a few cases winning the old First Division, then winning in Europe.
The Champions League is a farce and just enriches the top 4 and their ilk abroad, so the transfer market becomes even more sloped in their favour.
We need the top 4 to go away and play their super league equals, and then we need a transfer cap, salary cap, squad size cap and the 6/5 rule for British born players.
We also need revenue sharing like in the NFL and open and honest accounting, finally I know none of this will happen as the EPL and FA are all about money and anything that improves the competitiveness of football, but will infringe on their top 4 cash cows is not going to happen, basically the elite who run the game have done nothing except enrich themselves and the top 4 clubs.
If they are going ahead with this, people will only watch the superleague. 90-95% of all the other teams will lose revenue because no one want to watch them anymore. Which then will reduce their ability to produce world class player. It will harm football in the long run.
Its just alot of talk to try and encourage alot of attention from the media , at the start of the season we'll be supporting our english heroes and teams more than ever . Champions league is designed for the champions , shame that Real don't perform on the big stage . You don't see Manu , Liverpool , Chelsea , Arsenal not getting through to the finals ... strange nooo ???
hes just afraid that madrid will get knocked out by a club they consider smaller then them, which they undoubtedly will
