Cristiano Ronaldo has said the £80 million Real Madrid paid for him is a "fair price" and he is delighted to be the most expensive player in the world.
"I think that it's a fair figure," he told Marca. "If Manchester United and Real Madrid agree this amount, then there is nothing more to say. I'm happy to be the most expensive player in the world."
The signing of Ronaldo has captured everyone's attention and imagination as Madrid finally got their man this summer to end a transfer saga that has lasted more than two years.
It took an astronomical fee to persuade United to part with the winger, and Madrid have come in for a fair amount of criticism from both inside and outside the footballing community for spending so much money in the current global financial crisis.
However, Ronaldo believes Madrid are justified in paying the fee - and also feels he can live up to the price tag.
"The great players cost a lot of money, and if you want them you have to pay it," he added.
In response to those who have qualms about so much money being spent on one footballer, he added: "I respect everyone's opinions, but I don't agree with these people.
"If Real Madrid have paid so much money, it's because they wanted me and have considered it a fair price.
"I'm going to try to do everything in my hands to play very well and I will show that the money they are paying for me has been a good decision."
But is Ronaldo right? Have Real done a good piece of business by paying so much for his services or will they rue paying so much money?

hes an idiot. he isnt worth 20 million let alone 80 million. think about the countries in recession and madrid are spending a massive 80 million on a man. STUPID AND SELFISH.
ARSENAL ALWAYS.
What a plonker ! This just shows the arogance and ego of the man. No one player is bigger than the team. Real Madrid and the spanish league will be a totally different challenge then the premiership and he wont get away with throwing hissey fits at the Bernabeu. This just confirms that Ronaldo is in it for the cash.... look at Messi, in my opinion the best player around and showed Ronaldo a master class in football in Rome. He is a true professional and plays his heart out for Barcelona and recognises he is part of a team who play for each other and the club. I look forward to La Liga and the many more master classes from Messi and Barcelona. Ronaldo will be found !
i dont think any player cost that kind of money.PEOPLE ARE DIEING EVERY DAY BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT !!!!!!!THINK ABOUT IT!!!
maybe ronaldo(the brazilian) and cristiano(the portugis) put together on thier top form worth the price of "cristiano ronaldo".. daa.. nevermind.. they alreadybought him.. just let them be.. U know happiness cant be bought by money.. Didn't they learn that at school?
Can i ask why on earth there is a player cost nearly as much as the price to own Newcastle united dat have Martins and friends can exist? Put him alone one on eleven with newcastle first eleven and see how funny it can be. haha
He's a 1£ player but is worth £80m as a actor:)
Ronaldo did not worth that 80million pound deal. First thing he is childlish and
immatured. He's nothing but a piece of junk. I think Real Maddril should have such
a huge sum of money on about 4 spanish players that would do them better. Personally
and realistically speaking, I am a chelsea fan but Fernaldo Torres is the best player
in the world and Real could have spent that money on Torres who could have done for
them more work, score more goals, and could reach them to many finals, and give them
many titles.
Real Madril, the hiring of Ronaldo's servives would you all nothing but the beginning
of many night disappointments. Ronaldo is childish and complain alot. He's a pamper
kid.

Sorry Ronnie your not worth half of that figure, even the best player[ in the world] is not worth that amount, but one thing I,ll say about you , your EGO is biggar than your head.
La Liga is a great league. But, you can't claim it is the Best. The Prem, La LIga, and Serie A are all good. Even the Bundesliga is very good at times.
The truth of the matter is that Ronaldo isn't worth £80 m. Perez is an idiot and he has paid a dear premium for his players, which was unnecessary and very poor business. It is only going to hurt Real. Your team was very good this past year. Why tear it down and buy a whole new team? It seems short sided, childish and idiotic. It is this kind of decision making that has caused the current global recession. I hope Real get their @#$%*s handed to them by Barca.
ben, you said la liga is a step down from premiership but then claimed best players in world are messi, kaka and iniesta.
they all play in la liga so surely that is best league in world. plus barca are
european champions and spain are euro 2008 champions.
definitely not worth £80m.
was good in premiership against @#$% like bolton, hull etc.
will maybe struggle in la liga cos he'll be playing against better players.
No single player is worth 80 mil pounds. Zidane wasn't, Ronaldo the First wasn't, Cristiano isn't. This is a bad business move by Real. There's no way they're going to increase their profits on what they've spent on all these new players. They were already popular this move isn't going to make that much of a difference and if they don't gel it could be disasterous.
The question of whether Real madrid paid a fair price for Ronaldo depends on what they want to do with the player. They may wish to sell merchandise bearing his name, especially during their pre-season tour of Asia? It may not matter if his performance on the pitch does not measure up. They are still likely to recoup the investment in club merchandise
milesbetter658 now we hav 80 million to spend it is time we gt an outstandin winger such as aston villas ashley young, river plates rosales, or olic, frm i think werder bremen, or an even better stiker like aguero, or nw he is better diego forlan
I think the people best able to answer the question of whether Ronaldo was worth £80 million are, on one side, the Glaziers and on the other side, their creditors. Mr. Ferguson has so far not really pulled out all the stops to sign one of the "big" stars. I am wondering whether now the money is in the bank, that is where it will stay to service the massive MUFC debt. The only problem is who will be sold to service it next year? Certainly no one who is currently signed to MUFC.
he is 1 of the worlds best players bt i dnt think he is worth £80 million, he isnt even worth as much as kaka, and im a Man U fan, the player wnt b able to live up 2 the £80 million price tag tht has been set on him, he will end up just bein a medeoker player in the spanish league, the only reason he will loom good is wen the opposition is weak, wen u luk at the league he is leaving behind, he is takin a step down, i reckon if real madrid was in the premier leagu they would be in the bottom half of the league because they are no longer one of the worlds strongest teams, in my eyes the 3 best players in the world ( nd the only players i think r worth £80 million) r messi, kaka nd iniesta
What an @#$% !!!
If they were paying for biggest ego...then Ronaldo would be a clear #1. Don't get me wrong, I do like him. He's an amazing athlete when he's not diving. It's just his attitude and lack of gratitude are what puts a bad taste in many mouths.
Enx54 Let’s not be naïve, football’s a business, nothing more, nothing less. ‘Wouldn’t sell that lot a virus’, but you’d sell that lot, the best player in the world for years to come at a knock down price. Ronaldo’s the biggest sports star on this planet ( all sports ) and will be for years to come. He’s a huge star worldwide already. What’s he going to be like in six years time? The reason they took so long to get his personal terms sorted out was the image rights and advertising. How they were going to slice that cake up. That’s where the real money is. Does Ferguson understand what he’s given to Real Madrid? I wonder. I think Ferguson’s wants football to be like the days of Matt Busby and Bill Shankley and that’s an admirable thing and we should count ourselves lucky to have someone like that, … but that’s not where the world is headed and you can’t blame people for grabbing as much as they can, while they can, because it may not last forever.
As for Fergie being afraid of talent. Afraid may be the wrong word but have a look at that You Tube video and tell me what you think. Was Ferguson purposely not reacting to those Ronaldo free kicks? Was he not impressed? Had he seen it all before? What did he do wrong? Is this why Ronaldo ‘messed’ up so many free kicks last season? How could you not be jumping wild with glee at those shows of genius. I know I was and I wasn’t anywhere near Old Trafford.
