Bellamy 'swore' at family-stand fans

West Ham are investigating claims that striker Craig Bellamy verbally abused an opposition fan during Monday night's friendly at Ipswich.The Wales international was said to have been involved in a row with an Ipswich supporter during the clash at Portman Road.

The alleged incident happened as Bellamy walked along the touchline after being substituted on 22 minutes.

The striker was seen to kick an advertising board, after picking up an injury, and then appeared to be involved in a verbal exchange with supporters near the stadium's family enclosure.

A West Ham United spokesman said: "We will look into the facts of what happened.

"I haven't had a chance to speak to Craig myself. I was made aware of it after the game, as I was in the players' tunnel.

"An official from Ipswich made me aware something had happened.

"We take such allegations seriously. I haven't spoken to anyone to find out what was allegedly said."

The Hammers beat Championship promotion hopefuls Ipswich 5-3, thanks to a hat-trick from England forward Dean Ashton.

bellamy probably picked up some abusive words from the west ham fans, they are the worst for abuse in the prem, and thats saying something!

while i dnt agree with the language used by jasoptimum851, i do agree tht bellamy is meant 2 b a role model 4 young persons tryin 2 make it in the big leagues. bellamy is nothing short of a disgrace, he is no better david prutton when he pushed and verbally abused the referee a couple of seasons ago!!!!!! lets see the slapheads at the FA do something 4 the good of the game an ban him without pay, rather than givin him a suspended ban !!!!! ITFC 4 the premiership.

I don't like Craig Bellamy, but are footballers expected to take this kind of verbal abuse from a cretin like you and not respond. Why do comments continue to print this kind of verbal rhetoric? I hate the idea of censorship but these kind of comments should be banned
