Derby boss Paul Jewell has confirmed Stephen Bywater's proposed move to Tottenham has fallen through.
Bywater was poised to move to White Hart Lane after Spurs agreed a fee with Derby last week for the 27-year-old.
The former West Ham man underwent a medical at Tottenham, but the north London club have pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.
Bywater is now back training with Derby and Jewell is happy to have him back fighting for his place in the side.
"I think Stephen is a bit disappointed but, from our point of view, he will certainly push Roy Carroll," Jewell told the Derby Evening Telegraph.
"Stephen has looked very sharp in pre-season and I am not disappointed, especially with Lewis Price being injured."
Tottenham are now reported to be lining up a move for Real Zaragoza's Cesar Sanchez as they look to provide cover for Brazilian Heurelho Gomes.
