Chamakh deal 'is over' for Wenger

Wed, 05 Aug 09:12:03 2009

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will bide his time over Marouane Chamakh and wait until Bordeaux lower their valuation of the forward.

Wenger has declared a possible deal as "terminated" for the moment due to the French club's current asking price for the Morocco international, which is believed to be around £15million for a player with one year left on his contract.

"In five months, if he doesn't prolong his contract, Chamakh will be free to talk to any club and Bordeaux won't get anything. In the current context, to me, it is over. Let's say that at the moment it is terminated," Wenger told L'Equipe.

"I like Chamakh, he is a forward that attracts me, but I already have (Theo) Walcott, (Nicklas) Bendtner, (Robin) Van Persie, (Andrey) Arshavin and Eduardo. I am in no rush.

"My offer seems fair to me, taking the market into account. Chamakh would be good, but there are other options should we wish to pursue them."

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson expects Wenger to make at least one more signing to add to Thomas Vermaelen.

"Armand Traore and Fran Merida are back and there is the massive boost of Tomas Rosicky and Eduardo being back on board," he said on Sky Sports News.

"I think Arsene will add a minimum of one, possibly two."

  1. I'm an Arsenal fan..NOW the dreaming fans who kept shouting Huntelaar this and Huntelaar that, Wenger bring Hunter in...You can now come back to earth, I knew AW and the Board won't sign him. To those who said Chamakh isn't as good and he sucks, well, he is more like a player we sign, so you need to come back to earth and hope Wenger signs him, we need depth and hey, he is welcome, he wants to come to Arsenal and he isn't that bad, at least not injury prone and a hard worker. I'd like Huntelaar in an Arsenal jersey, but i'm a realist, and I knew Chamakh had more chance of being in Arsenal than Huntelaar, plus the guy didn't even want to come to Arsenal. Get behind players who want to wear the Red and White and play in N5!

  3. I'd rather watch great football through development than to go out & buy the league! The end result would {will} be more rewarding! Arsen is a great manager who manages not only players & turns them into world class but also is very wise with clubs money! he's done great business over the years! The board should love him! We should trust him even more & the fans should be vocal in the tough games! {the 12th man} Lets get behind these great players to be.

  4. Too right we have a manager who knows what a player is worth and will not be held to ransom in the overheated market
I hope he has a defender or two up his sleeve at a decent price as we do need a solid defence.

Also can anybody tell me why does bendtner think he can play the same way as Henry ??? he cant he needs to watch videos of Alan smith he is a through the middle striker I think he has not got the skill on the ball top play as Henry did IMHO

I want Arsen Finger to read this comment from a big fan of Arsenal, actually I was, I loved the Arsenal of Henry, Viera, Bergkamp, Kanu, Van peirce and seaman. It was a great team like the Brazilian team. the problem is that Mr Finger insisted in playing by young players who need long time to be stars and that does not match with the champ, Arsenal and the fans who looking forward to having new champions. Mr Finger plz try to get stars in your team. I am asking why you donot ask Henry and Viera to come back? why did you leave Tevez? I am afrid that Arsenal will lose fans in the worldwide because Arsenal is no longer the Champion which play to gain the tournaments Arsenal became worry of playing good not wining tournaments as past. Plying good football is great but it is not enough.

  8. I am for Huntelaar, and possibly Lee Catermore. But truth is Arsene must go for a defender because of the age of Gallas and Silvestre and their history with injuries (God forbid). Trophies count, otherwise football is only a sport; win some and lose some. Arsenal will surely still be Arsenal: Entertainment guaranteed!

  9. why the hell are we going for Chamakh anyway hes total and utter useless, first off we need a strong ball winning DM not some cheap ronaldo look alike who hasnt even scored many in the french league let alone the prem
