Senderos 'will not replace Lescott'

Wed, 05 Aug 10:07:25 2009

Everton have confirmed that they are in negotiations to sign Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos.

But the Goodison Park club said that a fee has yet to be agreed for the 24-year-old Swiss international.

The Swiss Football Federation on Monday night claimed on their website that the defender's move had been confirmed. However Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: "We have been negotiating with Arsenal for the transfer of Philippe. Nothing has been concluded yet but talks are on-going."

A fee of about £6million is being discussed for the player who was on loan to AC Milan last season, playing 15 times.

An Everton club source insisted that Senderos - who joined Arsenal in 2003 - was not being signed as a direct replacement for Joleon Lescott, who is at the centre of a battle with Manchester City for his signature.

Everton have rejected two bids, £15million and £18million, for the England defender.

Lescott did hold talks with boss David Moyes on Monday, but did not put in a formal transfer request.

Senderos is being lined up as cover at the back for Everton, where Phil Jagielka is not due back from a knee injury until November at the earliest.

However, Senderos' arrival on Merseyside would compensate for a possible Lescott departure.

Lescott has been told by Moyes he will not be sold and City have yet to put in a third bid, which could be as much as £22million.

  1. What is the point of contracts if they are continually broken? If a team invests in a player and trains him and it works out surely they have a right to his services for the contract. if a player wants to move in two years then they should only sign for two years and their wages reflected with loyalty payments. It works two ways for the player and the club. They should not be allowed to pick and choose like spoilt brats. Also the spoilt managers should also learn that no means no - what message does it give to kids - pester, bully and throw money about to get your own way. Let them see that diligence, determination and character are attributes we should aspire to not greed, bullying and hedonism. Anyway in the long run the money will walk and then what, Leeds, Blackburn, Spurs Newcastle and others tried and bought limited glory and where are they now? Hurts me to say it but the powerhouse that was Liverpool was created by guile, skill and expertise for Shankly and Paisley not bought.

  2. Just F--k off Lescott,we are sick of p----s who are MADE by Everton, turned into International footballers then don`t show any loyalty!!!go f--k off to City and fail miserably just like messiers Barmby,Jeffers etc;;; Thank f--k for honest pro`s like Tim C..f-----g legend....Once a Blue always a Blue..COYB

  4. Let City buy Lescottt for 22 million he is not worth it and neiter is Senderos at 4 million. With 22 mil in the bank Everton can then buy a decent centre half. And why not the media hype about Lescott not pledging his loyalty to Everton the way they wanted Terry to do with Chelsea? Anyone else fed up with the overpaid transfer fees and mindless transfer stories and just wanting the season to start?

  5. #2 What exactly have City done to warrant your penalty system of 30 pts? Made an official, by the book, offer to another club for a player. How the hell did Lescott get to Everton in the first place? Did they find him playing in a park somewhere? NO
Everton placed a bid for him to Wolves, which was accepted and he moved (dispite already having a contract at Wolves). That is the way players move from club to club (unless they become free agents, which due to the way the financial ball rolls in football, is becoming rarer every season).
City have made a bid, which Everton declined, City made an improved bid which has also been refused. Have you heard anything else from the City camp to suggest they intend kidnapping him?...no, 3rd bid yet, no. Official statement from City or Everton, no.

  6. I agree with most of what is being said about City and Reals tranfer policy but I think your missing the point lads. Senderos is rubbish just because he rubbed shoulders with Kaka last year dosnt value him anywhere near 6 million. Dont understand why everton dont swap Lescott for Richard Dunne + 10 Million, that would be a cracking deal. From a LFC fan.

  7. #2 is right. this becomes ridiculous, i mean come on, the best players could get 100.000 pounds a week but just paying a player, an average player double just to have him join your club is not normal. the best football will be promoted by the best clubs with the managers with the best philosophies arsenal, man utd, liverpool, barca, juve etc. you can't have 2 teams that just buy everything. you could understand a player leaving a second division to play in the first leaving an average team to play in europe but a lot of players nowadays are mercenaries. ronaldo, benzema, toure, adebayor, barry, robinho etc. these teams are following their own philosophy: if you can't win anithing, have a crapy team, buy the best, buy the players that are someone, that won something. it's like having an auction: arsenal wants to buy a player with 10 mil and give a 60.000 salary and then comes man city with a 30 milion offer and a 130.000 salary or real with a bigger one. it's ridiculous. teams shouldn't be aloud anymore to spend anything more than they have had as a profit the previous year.

  8. even in fifa manager you are not aloud to have this kind of transfer policy :))), it's ridiculous, at least real madrid and man city beacause they became 2 @#$% clubs now their fans can take pride in the numbers regarding transfers and salaries. pathetic

  9. 'Madrid and City Should be charged with illegally inducing players and bringing the game into disrepute and NOT be fined, But have 30 points deducted from them.'

You live in cloud cuckoo land, clubs are entitled to keep offering more money until they decide the value placed on the player is too much or they have a bid accepted, please stop talking as you're making yourself look stupid.

  10. what a lot of sence from petergidney well said mate , i would also like to add that Lescott should be gratefull to Everton or he might still be in a lower league , he should take a leaf out of Tim Cahills book and pledge there alleigence to the team they now play for

  12. peterdigney i vote you head of the F.A. If only these big arse clubs will listen or transfer spending capped at say 3o million ? just for arguments sake (and i think thats stupid sums of money too for 5 players never mind one) The game needs to return to wanting to play for your club, and will to get your club as far as poss not how much can i make!!
bloody greed its a shme the great game has come so far to end up like this mor like the heart of the late sir bobby i recon this sport needs,

From goodison 1, on Tue 4 Aug 8:12PM
  13. peterdigney, I totally agree with the sentiment, but unfortunately the contract is not legally binding in the way you think. the fee paid is for the transfer of said contract. the player is held to the contract, but the holder of said contract can be transferred.

From shoo, on Tue 4 Aug 7:54PM
  14. totally agree with peterdigney
Man City and Real Mardrid are a disgrace they should not persue players the way that they do!!!

  15. lescot is in contract with everton
if he wants to move to city everton
has the right to ask 30 million
city can take it or leave it

    From everton137, on Tue 4 Aug 7:34PM
  16. I sincerely hope that David Moyes and Everton stick to there guns and refuse Lescot a transfer, Its about time footballers, Real Madrid and Manchester City realised that a CONTRACT is a legally binding doccument.
Madrid and City Should be charged with illegally inducing players and bringing the game into disrepute and NOT be fined, But have 30 points deducted from them.
Then maybe we will get football back on track and stop the mercenaries from killing our game.
