Wolves have been dealt a blow after it was confirmed that new full-back George Elokobi will miss the season with a knee injury.

Elokobi, 22, suffered the problem against Ipswich in August and will undergo an operation next week after sustaining serious knee damage.

"I've been told next pre-season is the best I can hope for, but it's a really serious injury so I know I should take my time," Elokobi told the club website. "It's a massive disappointment to myself and the club, but it happens in football.

"I'm lucky enough to have the people around me from the chairman to the fans - everyone is behind me to get back fit again.

"As a player I'm a very strong character and I've got a picture in my mind of how I'm going to battle this.

"I'm definitely going to come back stronger - I haven't been told that, but as a player that's my belief.

"I have to believe I'll come back a better player than I was before I got injured."

The Cameroonian defender only joined Wolves in the summer, after rising through non-league football and spending four years at Colchester.
