Scottish Premier League - McDonald scoffs at write-off claims

Scott McDonald cannot believe Celtic's Scottish Premier League bid has been written off in some quarters after their Old Firm derby defeat.

FOOTBALL Celtic Scott McDonald - 0

The Australia striker, who sat out Sunday's 4-2 home loss to Rangers through injury, insists Gordon Strachan's players are strong enough to bounce back and claim a fourth successive SPL crown.

"To say the league is over after four weeks is almost laughable but I've heard a few people suggest it," McDonald told the Daily Record. "It's been suggested that our signings haven't been that good but that's ridiculous with four games in.

"Let's allow the season to take place before judgements are made."

As a Celtic fan himself, McDonald can appreciate that supporters must be concerned about the nature of Sunday's defeat.

He believes players feel the disappointment even more keenly and revealed how eager the squad are to atone for the result.

McDonald said: "Sunday was tough because the result was a big blow. You can argue about who feels it worse, the supporter or player, but I would say players take it harder.

"The fans make it known how they feel and they are entitled to that. We owe it to these people to put things right and start winning games again."

  2. Yep WGS should have left at the end of last season. Teams playing in the Europe drop a number of points in League games after big European nights. The League is there for the taking for the H**S

  3. what a knuckle dragger RAB is!!! by looking at the time he sent his professionally written piece (LOL) he must've have been pissed or his burd had left him for his best mate and his brain was ready to snap. totally agree with striker, the team has needed strengthened and improved for the last 2 seasons but strachan and the board have failed to deliver the quality required. it's a one pace approach to every game and many of the first team squad are on easy street and they know it. pay them £250 a week and get them to work 12 hour shifts in factories etc and they will see what the real fan lives like.

  4. I must agree...four games in and the league is over! What a load of @#$%. But on a serious note, I don't think the squad has a lot to offer...the manner of their defeat against Rangers (they made an average side look good!) showed up severe weaknesses that have been there for months. Their manager should have splashed out money on another "mobile" centre back, a good attacking left back, a creative mid-fielder and a proven striker. I think they will be exploited in the Champions League fixtures...a UEFA Cup place is about the best Celtic can hope for.
As for the comments of "Rab"..please try and drag your bigoted body into the 21st century! As a practising Protestant, I find your remark repulsive.
