Serbia's Jelena Jankovic celebrated her imminent return to the top of the world rankings with an easy 6-4 6-3 victory over Nadia Petrova in the Stuttgart Grand Prix final.
Second seed Jankovic, who will replace Serena Williams as world number one on Monday, took advantage of regular errors from the unseeded Russian Petrova to clinch victory in 83 minutes.
Petrova, champion at the indoor hardcourt event in 2006, played aggressively but was never able to match the consistency of Jankovic, who took the first set thanks to a single break in the Russian's opening service game.
Petrova lost her serve early in the second, too. She broke back for 3-3 but a desperate backhand wide gave Jankovic the advantage straight back and she stormed through to win a second successive title after last week's victory in Beijing.
"That's two titles in two weeks and I'm back up to number one so obviously things are going pretty well for me now,"
Jankovic, who gets to choice between prize money of £55,000 or a Porsche car, said.
Petrova's afternoon was summed up by the final game.
Serving to stay in the match, she planted an easy volley about a metre long to go 0-15 down. She was then wrong-footed by a Jankovic backhand that flew past her for 0-30.
Petrova wafted a crosscourt forehand well long to give Jankovic three match points and handed over the first of them with an awful approach that hit the top of the net.
Jankovic had not had to do anything spectacular; just keep getting the ball back and wait for the inevitable error.
"I went for every single point and tried everything," Petrova said courtside. "I just made too many unforced errors and the key to playing Jelena is to be consistent."

at one rank we need a well behaved stylish player like ANNA IVANOVIC to grace the courts
HI LANA 7 Wrong yet again as KREMLIN CUP HAS 8 seeded p[layers as usual
Venus was seed 6 in Jelena section of draw but Pennetta kindly removed her to allow JJ easy route to final
also Lana .,.,.Svetlana Kuznetsova is in different half of draw from JJ so can't play each other next ..!
@Igor K comment 100 /// I couldn't agree more !!
Lots of people here just hates JJ and her sucess. Couldn't be onest even to themselves and acept new champion!
Whatever she is doing thay will just critisize. This girl rocks, and if GS is playing now, she would have won it without problem ! Shot up lossers !
in moscow quarter final might be Venus but Russians willmaintain mum's vodka supply
dear lucky jelena more lucky still as Vera Zvonareva & Victoria Azarenka
are also both in other half of draw to help provide easy passage
well lana dear ,,, wrong again as 2nd round loser in moscow gets only 60 points not 70
russian organisers are very kind have given Jelenar day off 2moro
lucky jelenar
Svetlana Kuznetsova++Anna Ivanova ++dinara Safina++ Ana Chakvetadze +are in other half of draw
so Russian organisers have treated her kindly
vvagabond747 Jelena won 2 tournaments in 2 weeks, from Asia to Europe and she is injured. It will be great if she even pass 2nd round couse she is not defending single pts and was suppose to withdraw from WTA Moscow but unlike others, she is truly champion and fights till the end. What ever Jelena do in Kremlin cup, she will get pts (at least 70 if she lose in start) because she is has no pts there to defend. So after Moscow she will again be World No1.
so sorry I was wrong
In fact there are 11 {eleven} highly talented charming Russian girls in the KREMLIN CUP .,.,! !
well lana 88 .,., simply give us your figures please darling
jelenar has about 8 talented Russian girls waiting for her in Moscow in draw of 32
how many will she manage to get past ?
Being No 1 now she is expected to win them all .. Ha Ha Ha !
Iana (comment 78)you appear to have misread what I wrote. I said that if the WTA called Tier 1 tournaments "major events" in their yeearbook, as some people have said, then they have caused confusion and should not have referred to them as such. Of course, describing the Tier 1 events as the "major titles" on the WTA tour is not factually incorrect since the slams are run by the ITF. On the whole I agree with Isabellet. I suspect if you asked Jelena to list the Majors she has won, the only one she would mention would be her Wimbledon mixed doubles title.

vvagabond747 I said she has lots of victories... Like she won most of matches than any other WTA player did.
lana 17 she simply harvested points +prize money from tournaments without winning them
lana she didn't keep winning ,, simply reached later stages of lot of events without winning
@Emilija Jana
Oops... jeste da, osvojila je pobedivsi sestru Serenu... i dalje to nije mnogo, vec samo jedan GS ove godine... a tebi hvala za ovo "izvalis"...
but lana but she didn't win more she only reached more later rounds WITHOUT winning
