however williams sisters love or hate them do produce best tennis and did so this year, along with ivanovic , the williams sisters at 100 percent are best two players with myself rating venus a touch higher her only major weakness is she is too aggressive especially returning serve stands way too in and her elegance often stopping her from being as cut throat as serena. these two players are very much living legends and were as soon as they stepped in the game, so will be criticised no matter what due to the hype in the early careers including racial influences. so these two are battling the record books , ie serena won 4 grand slams in a row, venus has won wimledon i think 5 correct me if im wrong, and as a result are not too swayed by no.1 wta ranking status and dont think that will change next year.

as for any other female player not sure they believe they are the best player in the world only ivanovic maybe and jankovic genuinely believe they are no.1, safina has the power but her game is boom or bust and not sure she has enough genuine quality to be long term no.1 , dementieva is too weak physically too be consistent throughout year, kuznetsova is not bad but seems to get down in slumps so wouldnt genuinely consider her challenger for no.1.

i jankovic - good player makes very few unforced errors compared to other top ten players very strong on backhand , serve and forehand very safe and sound, but tactically very good also compared to other top players.

she is no way best player in the world her tennis this year at no point has been the best but has played most tournaments and been very consistent.

ivanovic BEAT j jankovic at the french open ,ivanovic was the class player at roland garros and dealt with her nerves keeping her confidence high .At wimbledon JANKOVIC WAS complaing about injuries, soreness, tiredness, bad back, blahblah- reminds me of djokovic. Around wimbledon the williams sisters were phenomenal by far the best players able to serve, VOLLEY, receive serve at pace and most importantly able to deal with power and angles.

Dont get me wrong i fully respect jankovic but she is not dominant in any way shape or form, but maybe if she wins a lot of tournaments next year she will be able to maybe become new dominant player she needs to be able to go through tournaments and rack up wins, not excuses even when shes winning.

i do genuinely believe she will be great player next year as she will adapt her game better than others a la henin when she matured, so believe in jankovic just not too much hype as she is no williams, henin, graff, anyone like that but she isenjoying more success and her hunger will keep her near the top of the tree .

so from these stats without telling you there has been a few outstanding players this year, the seven different players mentioned ms,ai, vw, sw, ds, jj, ed including kuznetsova and maybe petrova are only genuine players

g the facts this year was a slow start in womens tennis beginning of year ivanovic raised her game by pure attacking skills to be most feared competitor, but got ahead of herself mid year and lost all confidence in her game and her aura has dissappeared.

h sharapova - genuine classy athlete and will to win, if everything goes her way, had injuries this year blah, blah but she has one-dimensional game and doesnt seem to have belief she is the no.1 ie wimbledon she got destroyed!! and serve absolutely fell to pieces and this is her favourite tournament, does anyone believe she'll win australian open 2009- i don't, aint actually havent seen her since wimbledon.

a Jankovic is no. 1 player in the world ? - ever since justine henin retired b4 french open there has been no significant no.1

b No.1? ok justine henin had her doubters but there is no doubt she was most consistent player on wta tour in terms of year round tour-matches played and in terms of grand slam successes.
