A penetrating look at the opposition to the four English clubs and Celtic in the third group stage matches of the Champions League.
GROUP B
CSKA Moscow (face Manchester United at the Luzhniki Stadium on October 21)
CSKA Moscow 4-0 Kuban Krasnodar
A second half goal blitz in Moscow saw United's next opponents see off the challenge of struggling Kuban Krasnodar and secure a victory that sees them stay in touch at the top of the Russian Premier League.
Former Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez (pictured) grabbed a brace while Serbia international Milos Krasic and Nigerian Sekou Oliseh added one each in a stunning 15-minute period during the second half.
Juande Ramos's side ended the weekend in fourth spot, five points behind leaders Rubin Kazan.
GROUP D
Atletico Madrid (face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 21)
Atletico Madrid 2-1 Real Zaragoza
Chelsea's upcoming opponents scored a major breakthrough by securing their first win of the Liga season at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.
Jose Jurado reacted quickest to fire the hosts into an early lead before debutant keeper David De Gea conceded a penalty, which he managed to save.
Antonio Lopez then doubled Atleti's lead from a free-kick only to see Zaragona pull one back almost immediately after Thomas Ujfalusi gave away a penalty, Ewerthon Henrique de Souza duly netting.
But Atleti held on for three points and climbed up to 14th place in La Liga.
GROUP E
Lyon (face Liverpool at Anfield on October 20)
Lens 0-2 Lyon
Lyon took full advantage of defeat for Bordeaux to go top of Ligue 1 after a 2-0 win at Lens.
France winger Sydney Govou and Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom were on target either side of a missed penalty by Lens defender
Victory saw Claude Puel's side move on to 20 points from eight games and topple Bordeaux from their perch.
GROUP G
Unirea Urziceni (face Rangers at Ibrox on October 20)
Gaz Metan Medias 0-0 Unirea Urziceni
The Romanian champions were knocked off top spot after being held to a goalless draw away at Gaz Metan Medias.
Medias had a man sent off with nine minutes remaining, but Dan Petrescu's side could not find a late winner and dropped to joint second place, alongside CFR Cluj, who also dropped two points.
GROUP F
AZ (face Arsenal at the DSB Stadion on October 20)
AZ 1-0 NAC Breda
Jeremain Lens was on target for AZ as Ronald Koeman's side edged NAC Breda 1-0 at the DSB Stadion.
The 21-year-old striker swooped on the half-hour mark to settle the match.
Yet despite the victory, AZ still trail Eredivisie leaders Twente by eight points.
