Ligue 1 - Leko relieved Portsmouth move collapsed

Monaco midfielder Jerko Leko has expressed his relief over not moving to struggling Premier League side Portsmouth during the summer transfer window.

The Croatia international was set for a move to Fratton Park but Pompey were not willing to pay the £1.8 million asking price for the 29-year-old.

Since then, Portsmouth have lost all but one of their eight league matches this season, and confusion at the top of the club has led to several players not being paid and the club's owner Sulaiman Al Fahim looking to sell his controlling stake to another Middle East billionaire.

Meanwhile, Monaco are lying fifth in Ligue 1 after winning 2-1 at Champions League club Marseille at the weekend.

Leko said: "There were offers from England and Germany. I've not worried about the transfer to Portsmouth not happening. Their situation is bad."

Leko, who is out of contract at the end of the season, revealed that he could still leave the principality come the January transfer window.

"I'll try and regain my place in the team and, in the winter, I might still go," he added. "There is an offer from a Moscow club, but nothing concrete yet."

  2. Strangely enough considering all the abuse below­ he's a half decent footballer who Portsmouth could­ do with at the moment. I bet you lot had never heard of­ Arsenic Winger when he arrived, so what's the point­ of using your ignorance as a form of abuse.

    ­ Anyway all the man is saying is that you're in a­ dreadful position which, at the moment doesn't take­ to many brain cells to work out. Although you've­ managed to get some decent players like Dindane K.P.­ Boateng and O'hara (and Belhadj has got some­ quality) who should be able get you out of that mess­ not to mention that Al-Fahim sold his stake to Al Faraj­ who will give you some much needed funds.
