Forward Franck Ribery has pulled out of France's final two World Cup qualifiers because of a knee injury.
He left the France training camp outside Paris because of tendinitis in his left knee and will not play against Faroe Islands on Saturday in Guingamp or Austria four days later at Stade de France.
France coach Raymond Domenech already had to make do without playmaker Yoann Gourcuff, sidelined with a thigh injury, and will now be missing arguably his two most creative players.
France are second in Group Seven, four points behind Serbia, and will struggle to finish top and avoid a two-legged play-off on the road to next year's finals in South Africa.
Belarus captain Aleksandr Hleb has been ruled out of their final two World Cup qualifiers with a thigh injury.
The midfielder, who joined VfB Stuttgart on loan from Barcelona in the close season, will miss the Group Six games at home to Kazakhstan on Saturday and in England four days later.
England have secured a place in next year's finals in South Africa while Belarus and Kazakhstan have been eliminated.
Ukraine have bolstered their squad for their crucial World Cup qualifiers by giving a first call up to centre-back Evhen Khacheridi.
Coach Olexiy Mykhaylychenko has added the 22-year-old Dynamo Kiev player to his squad for Saturday's match at home to England and the visit to Andorra four days later.
Ukraine are battling with Croatia for runners-up spot in Group Six behind England, who have already qualified for next year's finals in South Africa with two matches to spare.
Croatia are second with 17 points from nine games while Ukraine are third on 15 from eight. The best eight runners-up from the nine European groups go into two-legged play-offs for the remaining four places alongside the group winners.
Adrian Mutu has returned to the Romania squad after an injury absence for the World Cup Group 7 qualifiers away to Serbia on October 10 and home to Faroe Islands four days later.
Fiorentina striker Mutu missed the matches against France and Austria after sustaining a thigh injury.
Romania are fifth in Group Seven with nine points from eight games after a disappointing campaign, with no chance to qualify.

Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso returned to the Italy squad for the World Cup qualifiers with Ireland and Cyprus but Sampdoria playmaker Antonio Cassano was again omitted.
The world champions need just a point in Dublin next Saturday to qualify for June's finals in South Africa as Group Eight winners.
Coach Marcello Lippi has therefore resisted major changes following their best performance in months in September's 2-0 victory over Bulgaria.
World Cup winner Gattuso missed the win with an ankle injury but has been recalled for the Irish trip and October 14's final group game with Cyprus in Parma despite his club's poor recent form.
Cassano, one of the best players in Serie A for the past two seasons having previously been undermined by childish antics, had been backed by fans and pundits for a recall.
Genoa defender Salvatore Bocchetti returned to the squad at the expense of team mate Domenico Criscito while Fiorentina centre-back Alessandro Gamberini was also called up for the first time since the Confederations Cup in June.
Captain Fabio Cannavaro was included despite not being fully fit and being suspended for the game against Giovanni Trapattoni's second-placed Ireland.
Fiorentina winger Marco Marchionni missed out along with strikers Luca Toni and Giampaolo Pazzini.

Andres Iniesta and Sergio Ramos have been included in Vicente del Bosque's 24-man Spain squad for World Cup qualifiers away to Armenia and Bosnia.
Long-term injuries kept Iniesta and Ramos out of last month's victories over Belgium and Estonia, when the European champions assured themselves of the top spot in Group 5 and a place in the finals in South Africa next year.
Full-back Alvaro Arbeloa misses out because of a knee complaint and Athletic Bilbao's Andoni Iraola was called up as a replacement, having made his international debut last year.
Spain will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent record in the group when they take on bottom-placed Armenia in Yerevan on October 10 and second-placed Bosnia in Zenica four days later.

Germany have included uncapped 21-year-old defender Jerome Boateng in their squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Russia and Finland.
"Jerome has played well in different positions with Hamburg this season whether it be central defence, full-back or as a defensive midfielder," coach Joachim Loew said.
"It's a logical consequence he should take the next step up to the national team."
Germany top Group Four with 22 points, one ahead of Russia, the team they visit on October 10.
The Germans then host Finland in Hamburg four days later.

Greece coach Otto Rehhagel has sprung a surprise by handing defender Giourkas Seitaridis an international recall for 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Latvia and Luxembourg.
Seitaridis, 28, was without a club for four months after being released by Atletico Madrid in May, a year before the end of his contract.
The Euro 2004 winner re-signed for Panathinaikos last month but has not featured in a competitive match while attempting to build up his fitness levels.
The last of Seitaridis's 66 caps came in Greece's 2-1 home win over Israel in April.
Another surprise inclusion is striker Vangelis Mantzios. The 26-year-old has been brought in to replace Angelos Charisteas, who is nursing a thigh injury.
Mantzios, who has seven caps, the last of which came in a friendly against Italy in November last year, is behind Djibril Cisse, Dimitris Salpigidis and Antonis Petropoulos in the Panathinaikos pecking order and has not played a competitive match this season.
Greece, second in Group 2, three points behind Switzerland and level on 14 points with Latvia, complete their qualification with home matches against the Latvians and Luxembourg on October 10 and 14 respectively.

Pantelic was dropped for Serbia's 1-1 home draw with France last month after an out-of-form spell but the suspension of Danko Lazovic, who was sent off against the French, forced Antic to name the Ajax striker in his 23-man squad on Friday.
Serbia are top of Group Seven with 19 points from eight games and need to win one of their remaining two qualifiers to seal a berth in next year's finals in South Africa.

Bulgaria's World Cup qualifying campaign has suffered a new blow after midfielder Georgi Surmov joined a lengthening injury list ahead of this month's crucial Group Eight matches against Cyprus and Georgia.
Coach Stanimir Stoilov said Surmov will not recover in time from the thigh injury he sustained during Levski Sofia's match with Lazio in the Europa League last week.
Stoilov must also cope without goalkeeper Georgi Petkov plus defenders Zhivko Milanov and Alexander Tunchev for the games in Cyprus on Saturday and at home to Georgia four days later.
PSV Eindhoven defender Stanislav Manolev is another doubt for the trip to Cyprus having not fully recovered from injury.
"I'll add another player to the squad if we can't use Manolev", Stoilov said.

Reid, absent from the squad for nearly a year with a knee injury, joins the provisional 27-man squad for the table-topping clash with Italy on October 10 and final Group 8 fixture against Montenegro four days later.
However there was still no place in the extended squad for Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid while fellow midfielder Stephen Ireland of Manchester City's self-imposed exile continues.
Ireland, unbeaten in their opening eight group games, trail leaders Italy by four points and hold a comfortable five-point lead over third-placed Bulgaria.

Dzhanayev, 22, replaces Russia's number two keeper Vladimir Gabulov, who is out for the season after breaking his jaw in a league match this month.
Dzhanayev has established himself as undisputed number one at his club Spartak Moscow this season, relegating experienced Croatian keeper Stipe Pletikosa to the bench.
Hiddink also recalled Dmitry Torbinsky for the first time in nearly six months after the Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder recovered from a number of injuries.
Russia face Germany in the top-of-the-table European Group Four clash on Oct. 10 in Moscow before travelling to Baku for their final qualifier against Azerbaijan four days later.

Captain Emanuel Pogatetz, Werder Bremen defender Sebastian Proedl and Spartak Moscow defender Martin Stranzl were left out due to lack of match fitness for the games against Lithuania and France, Austria's last in European Group Seven.
