Di Matteo craves fully-fit squad

Roberto Di Matteo cannot wait to see the end of West Brom's current stream of bad luck when it comes to injuries.

The Baggies head coach has had to cope without a host of key players since the first day he took charge back at the end of June, and the club's treatment room has not got any quieter as the season has progressed.

Marek Cech returned to the side at Preston on Saturday after missing the last four games with an ankle injury but Chris Brunt, who had only recently returned from a knee injury, had to come off on the hour mark.

Speaking after the goalless draw at Deepdale, Di Matteo told Albion Player: "It seems he's got a problem with his calf, it tightened up so we'll have to wait a couple of days to assess it.

"It seems like we're picking up injuries every game, we get one back and one injured again. I'm looking forward to getting everyone fit, the whole squad. If everybody's fit we're obviously a better team."

One bit of positive news for the Baggies boss will be the imminent return to training of James Morrison, who has been sidelined for the past six months with a troublesome heel injury. However the midfielder will not be ready for a first-team return until he has built up his fitness.

  1. The squad is not big enough! Thats Mr Peaces idea of trimming the squad down, when there are more games played in the championship!
