Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie ended another eventful week in the club's tumultuous recent history in optimistic mood.
A day after owner Mike Ashley was ordered to pay former boss Kevin Keegan £2million in damages for his constructive dismissal, Guthrie and his team-mates were held to a 0-0 draw at St James' Park on Saturday.
"Going into the international break, we have a three-point gap. It's a nice feeling, but it could have been five if we had just nicked a goal," said Guthrie.
"We have had a couple of draws at home, which is disappointing. We played well on Saturday - we didn't play so well against QPR.
"We are always expected to win, but we are not going to win every game.
"But the most important thing is we didn't lose and we kept the gap."

Ear ! Bobby Robson A Legend.... your such a bore i think I'm going to fall a.... zzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz
BRAL: So you "should be in the Prem and not here".... why exactly?
patrick.jewell: You deluded nutter. I NEVER mentioned ground size, I NEVER mentioned crowd base. You want to get your brain into gear before posting STUPID comments.
Another mackem escaped from Fantasy island.
I bet you sleep with Sean A.
Hey pats, we'll be back up there next season. Just hang in there... keep struggling......... dun get relegated.
patrick... milan, barca, eindhoven, feyenoord, juventus, now your talking fella, some marvellous experiences there.
It's alright playing proper clubs like Forest and Sheff Wed / United but not as good as Milan eh?
patrick..i was there in 92, i remember david kelly jumping in with us, with the leicester fans running wild on the pitch.believe me fella i have watched some shyte over the years, but i am quite enjoying this season(rather be winning in the championship, than losing in the prem, some good clubs in this league and makes for a good crack.
That's exactly it. You lot have forgotten what its like at the bottom of the second div (Championship).
Yes you had 16 years top flight footy and yes, some great Euro adventures but as a supporter you've got to take the good times with the bad. Agreed we've had more than our fair share of bad.
It could easily get far worse for you. Are you old enough to remember Leicester '92?
patrick...on what basis do you think it can get far far worse, you mackems seem to think you know all the answers, where do you get your info from fella?? i think what bobby legend means is we done 16 consecutive years in the prem and some brilliant euro adventures, so it takes a bit of getting used to,unlike your mob who liked the championship so much you kept going back.
Bobby Robson A Legend. Why should you be in the Prem? You got relegated fair and square. Regardless of ground size and fan base you were the third worst team in the league last season.
I am more than happy to see all 3 NE in the Prem but no one has a divine right to be there.
Also, think about it, it could get far far worse. Being top of the Championship doesn't mean you've hit rock bottom.
It`s nice looking at the League and seeing the Toon top. But it still gnaws at me that we should be in the Prem` and not here.
But, must look on the bright side, it can only get better :-)
as does every nufc supporter - without ashley & co
