Berdych romps into Beijing quarters
Tomas Berdych made light work of Philipp Kohlschreiber as he cruised into the quarter-finals of ATP Beijing with a 6-2 6-0 victory.
The third-seeded Czech is one of only two seeds left in the competition and will next face Spain's Fernando Verdasco.
Berdych won the match in little over an hour despite a poor first service percentage of just 45 per cent.
The only other seed left is top-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who faces local player Ze Zhang in the second round on Thursday.
Verdasco came from a set behind against Italy's Flavio Cipolla to win his second-round clash 2-6 6-1 6-2.
"It was a very difficult match," Verdasco told the ATP website.
"He was a player I had never played before. It is always tricky at the start, when you are trying to figure out his strengths and weaknesses."
Russia's Mikhail Youzhny followed up his first-round upset win over fourth seed Nicolas Almagro by beating Spain's Feliciano Lopez 6-7 6-2 7-5.
Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic fired 13 aces on his way to a 6-0 2-6 6-3 win over Germany's Florian Mayer and will be Youzhny's quarter-final opponent.
