Championship - United pay for Oakwell repairs

Manchester United have agreed to meet the full cost of repairs after their fans went on the rampage at Oakwell in their Carling Cup clash.

A catering outlet inside Oakwell is left ransacked by Manchester United fans following their side's League Cup match against Barnsley - 0

Four men from Manchester were later arrested for various public order offences.

Barnsley director Don Rowing told the Sheffield Star: "Manchester United have been very sensible and have met the whole costs for what happened. They have generously agreed to pay us £10,000, the cost of the damage.

"It's a very generous gesture and I applaud them. In this day and age we shouldn't have to tolerate what is tantamount to robbery with violence.

"I would stress that it was a small number who caused the problems, they are not Manchester United fans in the true sense. I said at the time, and I'll say again, there is no place in our society for scum who break the rules."

In a court of law they would have been forced to pay­ criminal compensation to the employees affected. if­ barnsley say it is robbery with violence why dont­ barnsley compensate the employes and split the ten­ grand amongst those directly affected sure there­ insurance would cover damage to buildings and contents

Some barnsley fans were saying it was some of their lot­ that started it and was left to do what they wanted by­ police and stewards and then when the so called utd­ fans retaliated they went way to far.. and then they­ stepped in???     £10,000 ?? What about stress­­ payments to the female staff and loss of earnings when­­ the whole place is fixed up?
    Dig much , much deeper­­ United. £50,000 or £100,000 as a goodwill gesture. The­­ lower league clubs need the money.
