well as long as you enjoyed the season of f1, thats all­ that matters, i did, amazin to see Button take 6 wins­ in the first 7 races, frustrating it took him til­ brazil to collect the title, but thats what happens­ when your competitors catch up and if he had taken it­ in Hungary as predicted, everyone would of complained­ about a boring season, so i guess you can't win­ either way, be intersting to see how the cars adapt to­ nex years fuel ban, expect to see lots of drivers­ pullin over halfway through or drivin slowly..i dunno­ how does that work?

And so you should be. But nobody has called you­ anything. You seem determined to read meanings that­ aren't there into others' words - even when­ they are quite clearly words of empathy. I sincerely­ believe that brucef1lee's comments are far more­ offensive especially as they are deliberately meant to­ offend. (Racism against French, Spanish and Americans­ as well as homophobia)
Words change their meanings over­ the years and distances. Words that were offensive 100­ years ago (or more) are now common place, whilst words­ that were inoffensive have become offensive... it's­ not the word itself, but the intended meaning behind­ it.
The word to which you object was originally­ inoffensive- it simply referred to the colour­ "black". So don't blame little old Agatha­ Christie for the evolution of language. Blame those who­ took the word and used it as a derogatory term for­ black people.
Also what is offensive in one society or­ group can be offensive in another. And as we are on the­ topic of racism and the word ni..gger, I shall use that­ as an example. That word is used between Afro-Americans­ with no hint of racism (of course). However, I assume­ you are British, so you will be more familiar than I­ with the fact that it is taboo in British English.
As­ an aside, where I live the word "black" is­ considered derogatory, so the word "dark" is­ used instead. It's a funny old world!
Anyway, I­ hope you enjoyed listening to music today and I hope­ this unfortunate discussion can be filed away and­ you'll be back with comments on F1- which is why we­ post here.

Glad someone agrees Count. I was exceedingly angry­ when I read the post from Elias accusing me of being­ racist. While I was uncomfortable with my original post­ because it was obvious in the title that it was the­ N-word, truly no offence was intended. This book was­ published at a time when people perhaps did not­ consider people's feelings when using certain­ words.

Not only that I don't think Agatha Christie­ was being racist for one moment. In fact didn't­ the title come from a much older nursery rhyme?
