Liverpool's manpower crisis has got worse after they lost their appeal over full-back Philipp Degen's red card in Saturday's defeat at Fulham.
Injury-hit Liverpool had Swiss defender Degen sent off in the match at Craven Cottage which they lost 3-1.
"At a Regulatory Commission hearing, a claim for wrongful dismissal by Liverpool defender Philipp Degen was rejected," read an FA statement.
"Degen was sent off for serious foul play during Liverpool's Premier League match with Fulham on Saturday 31 October. Degen's three-match suspension begins with immediate effect."
Degen will now be unavailable for the Premier League games at home to Birmingham and Manchester City, plus the Merseyside derby clash at Everton on November 29.
With fellow full-back Glen Johnson's calf injury forcing him out of Wednesday's Champions League Group E clash in Lyon, Degen - who is not registered for Europe - could have found himself getting an extended run in boss Rafael Benitez's first-team.
Liverpool felt that Degen's foul on Clint Dempsey merited only a yellow card, but the FA do not agree.
If Johnson does recover in time for Monday's game with Birmingham, Degen will probably find himself completing the ban in reserve football.

Yes , I really expeted no action from FA re Harsh decissions going on the pitch.
Refs have given themselves strong teeth to defend their wrong decissions, I can really see how premier league goes down slowly the FA seems to be very bussy doing other things other than looking at the future of football in Uk.
Football is becoming a vey big growing business in the England than oils etc, people uses money to create trophies FAs quite and laugh, Refs spoils it FAs quite and laugh etc.
I can see how La liga is peaking up so quickly, I think I should produce myself more on othe league now.

am not suprise by the way things are going at liverpool becos u cant eat ur cake and have it, he has got the best squad last season instead to improve on it he sold his best player becos of his EGO and pride which has brought him nothin but failure. truely i wish rafa should leave the club becos there are 10001 beta coaches out there who could do beta and erase the thought that the club cant do without him.

I am very pleased to see Degan get a 3-game ban - I wish it were 10 games, as he is so poor it is almost worse having him on, than only having 10 men. This removes the temptation for Rafa to use him, at least for a few games. Bring on Spearing, Darby or someone else - anyone else!!! rather than the Swiss rollover.

as a soccer fan i know we have a very big problem in middle field,if only work out our middle & up front.at the back we need experienced players in event where by caranger,syktle,agger are we still have to stand but as things stand we will keep on losing coz there is no consistence in our players as well as the managers decisions are inconsistent,bernard zambia
