Formula One's governing body has vowed to ensure the sport is financially sustainable after Honda announced they were withdrawing from the championship.
"The announcement of Honda's intended withdrawal from Formula One has confirmed the FIA's longstanding concern that the cost of competing in the world championship is unsustainable," the International Automobile Federation said in a statement.
"In the FIA's view, the global economic downturn has only exacerbated an already critical situation.
"As the guardians of the sport, the FIA is committed to working with the commercial rights holder and the remaining members of FOTA [the Formula One Teams' Association] to ensure that Formula One becomes financially sustainable."

ive just found out you can only make comments praising drivers & cars as i just wrote an article telling the truth only to see invalid comment appear so it must be true that money buys you good press & no critisicm
Amongst much wailing and gnashing of teeth, the F1 purists are being consigned to the parts bin of life. Grow up and accept the inevitable, the top teams spending gazillions to win is going to stop. More 'kit cars' and stock engines filling the grids will be the norm. If you don't like the spectacle any longer, no-one is forcing you to watch it. For my money, the racing will be a lot better than it has been for the last 25 years or so.
@ [22] marion I hops that its not your picture,as to your Question he stinks and nobody likes that bloody smell near him
@ [18] SCOTTISH C, Gallus humour [daring=Scotland daring in an arrogant or foolhardy way] ok here we go, yes the door was wide open and when BMW came into it the door was removed from its hinges by ROSS BRAWN saying that ALONSO is the best in the world [to-day], at the time I wrote that if he goes to HONDA it will be only for the money, although you may have washed you still stink like hell
The world is changing and maybee we cannot sustain these expensive sports anymore. Perhaps they should have racing where the winner is the car that gets furthest on a gallon of fuel.
where weak bellyman MJA he keeps gettin plugged....lol
change the rules two times/season with no hints, so they newer have time for testing and investing in long term development.
wee will see who is the most prolific and imaginative constructor and the most adaptive driver.
Paddington, haven't you gone back to see all your poor relations in their favella in the slums of Lima yet.
Bring back tobacco sponsership, problem solved :-)
Stivs, just a bit of gallus humour on a very black day for F1.
I bet Alonso is glad he didn't sign for them! I remember it being a very real possibility.
@ [14] scottish c puff what a smell go wash
hello my little f1 bum chums it marion here from peru.
mr hamiltons son say he stay with mclaren men for life. that nice for him but what do mclaren men say? you see mclaren is now german owned. the parent company is the mercedes benz which is the german. the engine is the german engine. everything about the team is the german. mr hamiltons son now the swiss gentleman he eat much cheese and sings in the morning at mountains. mr hamiltons father is also now the swiss man. in fact there nothing british about this team at all. even the man who tidy up the garage after the race has moved to switzerland with his mother. switzerland is owned by the german. my friends the whole team is GERMAN - and guess what - so is mr glock. now you see why the time stand still for mr glock on the last lap. like he in the time warp. not even the people abducted by the alien lose the amount of time he lost on that last lap. IT IS A DISGRACE!!!

People are blaming the FIA, but we need to remember, they have had enormous expenditure themselves this year.
.
Paying off those stewards at Spa and Japan must have cost millions...
Bribes aren't cheap you know!
I hope F1 goes under,,I do love to watch it but Bernie MIDGET and Moseley need to have nothing to do with the sport,i say let the peole who race init also run it....The blame for the cost of F1 falls soley on Bernie and Moseley and personal greed "not for the love of the sport" because if they loved the sport they would do something to keep teams in the chamionship and not say they are sorry to see them go.. FOLD THE SPORT i say and bring it back minus the two criminals..Regards
BREAKING NEWS...BREAKING NEWS: BMW sales down 25%. Better make that McLaren v Ferrari pnly next year providing Fiat can afford it.
"As the guardians of the sport, the FIA , ( ie. MAD MAX) is committed to working with the commercial rights holder ( ie. THE POISONED DWARF) ........ ..to ensure that Formula One becomes financially sustainable." Oh good, as long as the Evil One is making sheds of money, that's a relief.
Mad Max has made the teams spend millions each on this totally irrelevant KERS system. Instead it should have gone out to tender so that the teams could have shared the cost of the technology. No one cares who has the best KERS system, about as interesting to the average fan as pit-to-car telemetry. The irony is that Honda are reckoned to have developed the best system.
Toyota - 400 million - they will pull out
Williams - massive debts - sponsored by RBS - they will fold
Renault - teetering on the edge for last 2 years - they can't afford it
Red Bull/Toro Rosso - Dieter can sponsor a dozen other sports and
reach a bigger audience - the under 25s
Force India - Mallya will realise that even he can't waste money on a
past time that has no relevance in India
That will leave only Mclaren, Ferrari and BMW - 6 cars- F1 will cease.
The manufacturers should NEVER have been allowed to buy F1 Teams. It is they who have driven up costs by their insane policy of spend spend spend. They should have been restricted to providing their own engines, gearboxes and electrical systems to at least 2 teams. This problem of spiraling cost and subsequent withdrawal of the manufacturers was forseen years ago and ignored by Mad Max and the Poisoned Dwarf because they were making to much money.
Because his run away wife has got all his money. LOL
why doessnt Bernie buy the team ?
