Richardson rues Spireites loss

Sun 06 Jan, 02:30 PM

Boss Lee Richardson labelled Chesterfield's 2-1 defeat to Grimsby "another game we should've won" after their run of four straight wins ended.Striker Jamie Ward reduced the deficit for the Spireites after Danny North had scored a brace, the second coming from a penalty awarded after North and Aaron Downes had collided in the box leaving Richardson less than convinced with referee Eddie Ilderton's decision.

He said "I have been critical with him on past penalties but he's an honest lad and he feels that their lad tricked him and then fell over.

"I was disappointed with both their goals because I felt there was a foul on Downes in the build-up to their first.

"It was a smash-and-grab win by Grimsby and I'm sure they are delighted with it but it's another game that we should have won.

"Perhaps with a bit more rub of the green we could have won the game but once again it shows just how important it is to keep a clean sheet because that is the key to being successful."
