Tilson hoping to turn it around

Sun 06 Jan, 05:00 PM

Southend boss Steve Tilson hopes the 5-2 FA Cup victory over Essex rivals Dagenham & Redbridge will revitalise his team's League One fortunes. The Shrimpers got one point from four games over the festive period but Tilson hopes the third round derby win will be a shot in the arm.

"It was a tough game and I'm glad to get through to the next round," said Tilson.

"We went 2-1 down but the boys rolled their sleeves up and dug in. At the end of the day the score was not important, the result was and hopefully we can build on that against Yeovil next weekend.

"It was probably Dean Morgan's best performance for us since his arrival from Luton.

"He is probably heading to Leeds this month and there was no way we could match their wages. But he scored two goals for us and got us through to the next round and that's the important thing."
