Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Fabio Capello to turn England into winners.
Capello brought forward his arrival by 48 hours specifically to watch Manchester United's FA Cup triumph over Aston Villa.
Although Ronaldo opened the scoring at Villa Park, netting for an incredible 19th time this term, the Italian also watched Wayne Rooney find the net as well as witness encouraging performances from Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and young Villa defender Curtis Davies.
While much-lauded Villa front-man Gabriel Agbonlahor had one of his quieter days and keeper Scott Carson made a couple of needless blunders, Ronaldo, who unlike England will be at Euro 2008 this summer with Portugal, feels Capello has enough talent at his disposal to forge a winning team.
"Fabio Capello is a great coach and I hope he does well for England," said Ronaldo.
"He will know who the best players are and he will pick them. I still believe England have a great squad and with Capello in charge, I am sure they will do fantastic."
Like Agbonlahor, Ronaldo was ineffective at times on Saturday, spending as much time complaining about referee Martin Atkinson's failure to award free-kicks in his favour as he did embarking on constructive attacking missions for his own team.
However, as usual, when it mattered the 22-year-old was there, bundling home Ryan Giggs' low cross from close range before Rooney finished off United's 13th successive win over Villa and their 11th straight triumph at Villa Park.
The former Sporting Lisbon star, whom Ferguson has forcefully claimed has not been the subject of any discussion between United and Real Madrid, is now just four behind last season's 23-goal tally.
Yet he insists he would be happy if Rooney, Carlos Tevez or Louis Saha, who currently have 10, 10 and four respectively, finished the season level, or even ahead of him in the club scoring stakes.
"Manchester United is not just about one or two players," said Ronaldo. "Everyone is important.
"I am having a good season and scoring lots of goals but it would be great if Wayne could get the same number, or even more. I would be happy if that happened, and that would also be true for Carlos and Louis as well."
Ronaldo certainly believes Capello would have been impressed by Rooney's 20-minute cameo from the substitutes' bench, although he is not convinced the former Everton forward has anything to prove to anyone, even a vastly experienced 61-year-old Italian.
"Everyone knows Wayne is a good player," said the winger.
"He does not have to do anything to prove that. He came on against Villa and did very well. He looked sharp and good and that can only benefit us.
"We have a long season ahead of us, so it is important Wayne is ready along with all the other players as well."
Having finished third in the FIFA world player of the year standings on the back of a United campaign that saw elimination at the semi-final stage of the Champions League and an FA Cup final loss to Chelsea tagged onto a Premier League title win, Ronaldo is hoping to take a step forward over the next few months.
And, while improvement on last season will be tough, the Madeira-born player does not believe it is beyond United's capabilities.
"I believe we can do better this year," he said.
"We have a good squad, with a fantastic group of players.
"We have a good chance of winning all the competitions, so why not think about doing that?"
