Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has insisted that he wants to keep hold of out of favour full-back Andrea Dossena.
The Italian arrived at Anfield from Udinese over the summer for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £7 million.
He was given the opportunity to establish himself at left-back but failed to impress and lost his place to Fabio Aurelio.
Aurelio suffered an injury at the end of November but Benitez turned to Argentine youngster Emiliano Insua rather than Dossena.
Dossena has been linked with a January move away from Liverpool but Benitez has ruled out a departure.
He does not want to lose any of his players as the Reds continue to mount a challenge for the Premier League title.
"I am not considering selling Dossena," Benitez said in the Daily Star.
"I think it is important to keep the squad together."

i agree with matthew, i think keep till end of season, let him settle into the role while insua is in the under20 tournament. if there has been no improvement after the month then i will finally lose my faith in his ability. the trouble with liverpool is we have a lot of good fullbacks but not a real worldclass player like bosingwa or evra. i say, sign glen johnson he is promising and its nice to have england internationals.
Dossena makes Sean Dundee look like Pele!! He is a weak link and will be targetted by teams in the know. He is an accident waitin to happen..Insua and Aurelio are much better options. If we can get any money back go for it..as for Riise being a better player, yes he was but still not good enough for us. Maybe Rafa wanted Barry as cover for midfield and left-sided defence.
The other thing we have to think about is that Insua is away on international duty for the next month with Argentina for the under-20's in the South American championships so for that reason alone we need to keep Dossena past this transfer window. And as someone pointed out, he isn't Italy's 1st choice left back for nothing. Fingers crossed.
Top of the premiership with this squad. No matter how dubious his performances have been, Rafa must only consider selling players at the and of the season. Keep focused
rafa is right must keep team together going to be a massive 5 months
Granted he was shocking for a LOT of games - even up until very recently, but has had a couple of encouraging performances when played last - not great, but an improvement. I say keep until end of season and see how he goes from here, I mean he's the first choice left back for Italy!!
Settling in takes time, hopefully he's doing that now.
Mind you Fabio and Insua have been a lot better than him mind...
We dont have money like other teams but we are performing better than them. Please leave our average paid dedicated players with us. Yes we are poor in terms of money but rich in terms of football. In Rafa we trust and in Liverpool we share our hearts.
get rid of him rafa ... he's a load of cack!
i really can't understand getting rid of riise for him ... my 10 year old son can pass the ball better
