Webber return on track

Red Bull's Mark Webber has confirmed that his planned return to the Formula One cockpit for the beginning of February remains on track.

Webber was involved in a leg-breaking accident during a downhill mountain-biking event at his annual Pure Tasmania charity outdoor adventure challenge in November.

The Aussie broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg in a collision with a car close to the Tasmanian capital of Hobart but he has now returned from his homeland to Europe to continue his rehabilitation.

Webber has set himself the goal of the third week of January to discard his crutches, and is already back in training: swimming, doing light leg exercises with the help of a trampoline mat and working to strengthen his foot and ankle with elastic bands.

"I want to be testing at the beginning of February," the 32-year-old told German magazine Auto Motor und Sport. "I can't push it too much because the swelling will come back.

"It could have been much worse. I was lucky it was the right leg, which is not working too hard in the car. The most important thing is that I get the feeling back."

Red Bull's new, Renault-powered RB5 is due to be launched at Jerez in southern Spain on 9 February.

  5. and for the record. the problem is not with lewis.­ it's with what mclaren has become and how it treats­ racing and how it treats its own drivers. it is­ downright shameful.
    i used to be a huge mclaren fan­ they started bowing down to god lewis which is a little­ creepy. cults are always scary, and while with­ shumacher it was legitimate -- he was a superstar and a­ multiple world champion, and he drove at a time when­ ferari dominated majorly, i don't get the cult of­ personality around lewis. yes he's good but any­ driver who makes it to formula 1 and is given the best­ car that's also reliable should be able to pull off­ wins right? if they don't that's a problem. he­ hasn't shown anything spectacular. at all. he­ barely scraped by this title, let's face it, and­ now he's somehow 'the best f1 has ever­ seen' . please spare us the bs. just because­ he's british doesn't mean he's god.

  6. yes this is about webber and while it sux that he broke­ his leg no one really cares about the private details­ because let's face it the season is a long time­ away, he's kind of stuck at a @#$% team , and he­ hasn't totally proven that he deserves to be at a­ better one so ... who cares about the intimate details.­ that's why the anger at whatformula what is­ becoming is on here.
    i agree. glock's moves were­ suspicious. even if they were legitimate mistakes, i­ lost all respect for mclaren seeing how they 1. cheated­ really badly not long ago and 2.how they treat their­ 'second' driver. kova is not the best by far­ but he seems to be the only one with little enough self­ respect to allow mclaren and lewis to step all over him­ .he has a much shittier car.
    BUT WE HAVE TO MOVE ON.­ we have to hope that next year some other team will not­ leave it till the last lap of the last race and will­ truly have a better car than mclaren and really win the­ drivers championship.

    Fair point, article is about Webber.­ Some people are true F1 fans and then other idiots are­ just wind up merchants. I took the oportunity to­ respond to the wind up merchants.
    Lets hope Mark Webber­ is fit and ready for the season opener. We need all the­ drivers (not pilots) on the grid we can get.

  12. For so long now I have read these articles. No longer­ can I keep quiet. So, Glock on the last lap did not­ slow down to let Hamilton pass. BOTH Toyotas gambled by­ staying out on slicks. They had nothing to loose. Glock­ was in fact still quicker that lap than his team mate­ Tulli on the same tyres. The reason he was one side of­ the track was common sense and safety. He had no grip­ at all. After Hamilton passed him he was not able to­ increase his pace because of the lack of grip. Hamilton­ indeed finished over 6 seconds ahead of Glock in just­ the final run to the line.
    So lets draw a line under­ this conspracy theory rubbish and just apreciate a­ British World Champion!
