Saganowski on comeback trail

Wed 06 Feb, 11:00 AM

Southampton striker Marek Saganowski is pushing for a first-team start after coming through 65 minutes for the reserves against Leyton Orient. The Pole, whose fellow attacker and countryman Grzegorz Rasiak joined Bolton last week, had been sidelined with a hamstring problem.

But he came on as a substitute at Crystal Palace last weekend and got another chance to improve his match fitness as Saints' second string beat the O's 2-0.

"Marek got 65 minutes which will do him good, and it was a very good display overall," said reserves boss Stewart Henderson, who also allayed fears that defender Ollie Lancashire had suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

"Ollie jarred a thumb and could have done quite serious damage if he had landed on it again, but the good thing is his hamstring is fine," he added.

Young midfielder Adam Lallana scored both Southampton's goals.
