Stoke's deadline-day signing Glenn Whelan has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendly against Brazil on Wednesday.The 24-year-old winger, who made his Potters debut as a late substitute in Saturday's 2-1 win over Cardiff, impressed for Ireland's B team in a 0-0 draw with Scotland in November last year.

Whelan left for Dublin on Tuesday evening and could be in line to earn his first full international cap at Croke Park.
