Fabregas: I'll return to Barca one day

Sat, 06 Feb 17:42:16 2010

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has reiterated his desire to return to Spanish giants Barcelona later in his career.

Fabregas has long been linked with a move back to the Catalan giants, where he spent six years as a youth-team player.

He played down Spanish reports that he could move back in the summer, telling Catalunya Radio: "I have not been called by anyone. Neither me or my agent. But I can only speak from what I know and answer what I know. I have never hidden the fact that one day I will return to Barcelona."

He added: "Since I was nine months old, my grandfather would take me to the Barca stadium and I spent all my life wearing those colours. For one reason or another I had to go, but one never knows what can happen.

"Barcelona is the best city in the world to live in and the quality of life is great. I know it very well. I do not like the weather in London, but as a city it is spectacular. When I retire, I will live in Barcelona."

Fabregas has been at Arsenal for over six years and continues to go from strength to strength.

The 22-year-old has scored 11 goals in 20 Barclays Premier League appearances this season and is enjoying his best campaign yet.

Ahead of Arsenal's crunch clash at Chelsea on Sunday, Fabregas is not letting his future be a distraction as he focuses on his club duties, in the hope of being in prime shape for the World Cup.

He added: "I'm in the best form of my career, individually speaking, and I want to keep my mind in the present.

"There are four months of competition and we are doing well as a team. I want to be calm and to be able to centre myself in the Premier League and in the Champions League so that I can arrive at the World Cup in good form, that is another of my priorities."

  3. if all Arsenal's players court other clubs the way Fabregas does, it's not wonder there's a weak team mentality. Fabregas needs to shut up about his 'love' for Barca and do a proper captain's job at the emirates. All this is bad for the club

  8. Hey clone2, not that it should really matter whether supporters are English or not anyway, but I was born in Stoke Newington nr Highbury and I am 100% English. One of my passions is to eat red hot curries and chillis and a habanero is a type of red hot chilli that I often eat.

Next question ... so is clone2 an English name?

  13. He'll be gone in the summer & i don't blame him to be honest, the fans want the team to compete but hardly any spending & selling some of our best players every transfer window is killing us

Wow!! That is one priceless comment. I cannot believe anybody could say that?

Did you not see Arsenal 3 Aston Villa 0 where Cesc almost single-handedly dragged the floundering Gunners to victory? And who has scored more goals than any of our strikers?

  16. he is a very good player but he can go wherever he wants. insensitive interviews like these from a captain b4 games against man u and chelsea are d ones that weaken d team morale. he is good but lacks basic confidence in his abilities and seems to be driven by fear. he is d reason arsenal come close but don't make it. a captain is not supposed to lack confidence so fab you can go and let 2 new signings come in and let's watch and see d difference. he will either be a flop in barca or take this same lack of confidence spirit there and they won't be d same like now. peace

  20. ...And stop saying that he made them, he gave a quality potential an opportunity to show themselves, If he did not, they would eventually show it somewhere else...e.g. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who we signed for 3m but Wenger canceled the deal, Cristiano Ronaldo who;s club were asking for 12m, but Wenger bowed out after ManUre came calling, Didier Drogba, who a scout recommended, and a player that wanted to play for Arsenal, but Wenger said no....etc..I know he can't get it all right, and that's fine, but it all boils down to being stubborn sometimes, not seeing beyond ones sole dream and policies.
