Premier League - Managers: AVB and Fergie pan officiating

Sun, 05 Feb 22:46:00 2012

Managerial reaction to Sunday's Premier League games, with neither manager in the 3-3 draw between Manchester United and Chelsea happy with the match officials.

Chelsea 3 Man United 3

CHELSEA 3-3 MANCHESTER UNITED

Andre Villas-Boas: "The second penalty was very, very dubious. I don't know if Howard Webb had the correct angle to make the decision, maybe the linesman made the decision but it was very unlucky from him to give it. I'm not sure if he was compensating from anything in the first half, but it was the wrong decision. It was a big disappointment, generally, on the way it happened. (It was) a dubious decision that, in the end, shifted the running of the game. We expect in top games to have top refs and at the moment it hasn't been happening for us."

Alex Ferguson: "They should've had a man sent off in the first half. Danny Welbeck's clear through and he was brought down. Okay, it's outside the box, (but there was) no decision. That linesman, who's given a penalty kick against us from 40 yards away last year against Liverpool, this year against Arsenal - and he can't see that? I don't blame Howard Webb - he needed help in that situation and he didn't get it. That assistant referee, who's all too happy to flag at Old Trafford for penalty kicks, didn't give them."

NEWCASTLE UNITED 2-1 ASTON VILLA

Alan Pardew on Papiss Cisse: "In my career, I have been lucky with strikers in debuts, and that's struck again today. I am really pleased because it's a big investment for the club. While Mike [Ashley] sanctioned it and Mike is the owner and [managing director] Derek [Llambias] had to see the deal through, it's fans' money. I have got to spend fans' money here - if we don't get anyone coming into the stadium, we haven't got any money, so I like to spend it well. We have worked hard on that, we have taken our time and we hope we got it right. He has had a great start today, [but] that's all at the moment."

Alex McLeish on Stephen Ireland: "I know he spoke back, but at the same time, players don't like to hear the manager screaming at them from the touchline. But I kick every ball with them, I am passionate, I care and I wouldn't be so petty to take a player off for something like that if he is doing a fantastic job. But Stevie had an ankle problem. He wasn't able to close down and that was it."

  2. howard webb cheated Man Utd again cos Cahill shouldn have been sent off and Man Utd deserved to win. Still, we have all easy games left now so that is the premiership title sewn up again and we have not had to spend lol Mancini is useless cos any other manager with the money he has had would have a world class team not a load of donkeys lol

  3. The Old man (Sir Alex) was wrong. All the decisions but home and away are always infavour of diverunited. I am not Chelsea's fan, but on this occasion, I understand he just needed to say something. Otherwise, if he is Liverpool or other club coach, and he was ask to analise the incidents of the game - United v Cheasea, I am sure he will agree United were favoured in every area. If they eventually win the Title this year, we will all appreciate how much Refs & FA has helped them....

  11. Webb gave 2 similar penalties to eliminate Aston Villa from FA. You arsenal fans stop all the nonsense. Who spoke when u were favoured in a knock out game?

  12. eddie hitler @ 148 a shirt pull in the area is a penalty, what don't you understand about that, have you even seen the incident, and Wellbecks penalty was the same as Adam Johnson's against Fulham, and nobodys mentioned that have they, how typical of the blue bitters. One decision United got which was 50-50 in the match was the 2nd pen, and considering Cahill should of been sent off which would of changed the game completly the the decisions have evened themselves out havn't they. Oh you say United bought their success, yes maybe but with their own money earned through winning things, and a great youth system, not like City their entire first team has been bought with oil money not their own, that money also pays the astronomical wages of their merceneries. City as a club are skint and have made huge loses.

  13. Mr Angry @ 157 your right it's very strange what right minded individual would pretend to support a team like Man City. Straight jacket time me thinks.

  14. 3-0 down to 3-3 up. AVB should now know that it is more than hard to mess with United even though the champions crushed 1-6, 2-3 and 3-0. He rather make it ''IMPOSSIBLE TO MESS UP WITH THEM''.

  15. no doubt about it howard webb is clearly a die hard manure yoonited fan lol i have even heard that he's getting a statue outside the old toliet stadium and he apparently is getting put into manure yoonited hall of fame for being such a die hard supporter of the club for many many years....btw i have also heard that he is in a relationship with old red nose drunkerson himself wahahahahahahaha

  16. Have all of u guys lost it . Manutd should have 4 pk awarded not 2 and how Chelsea finished that game with 11 man I will never understand.
Its ok when AVB is grabing on to his seat going after refs when even he does not believe himself but all of this comments cmon get real.
Manutd was striped off 2 points and everybody knows that. It seems like to me Roman will have to get M back if he wants title.

From Darko, on Mon 6 Feb 23:12
  17. The level of diving in the box over the weekend was of a very high standard, it took a couple of slow motion replays on all the penalty decisions to show how clever the players are getting at it, and not just the Utd/Chelsea game, it was all the games, they are obviously working on this in training, I hope our boys can keep up and master it like the rest of ye cheating b'astards!!!

From Anfieldstar, on Mon 6 Feb 22:36
  18. I`m not a chelsea fan but they only lost the 3 points because of a very dubious second penalty decision, Welbeck dragged his foot and dived , Webb surelly not 100% sure give it without any hesitation Which makes me think that he wanted to help Man U.
I`m not sure if Webb is the 12th man though as it looks, I think the bloke has so much pressure n him from the Man u players crowding round and questioning every decision. This is one of their tacticts that they have done for many years and seem like the only team to get away with it.

From Paul, on Mon 6 Feb 22:35
  19. in the late 90s the refs were made to talk about the decisions they made on the pitch, big surprise the dubious decisions went down, then the fa stopped this and now look were we are, refs are making dubious decisions nearly every game, maybe its time they brought back the refs having to explain themselves again, as for the man city fans as your club wont be able to bribe players with massive wages anymore this is your only season in which to win the title, which i doubt you will.

From Badspelling, on Mon 6 Feb 22:25
  20. eddiehitler- the trafford you are speaking to is a clone , a yoonited fan pretending to be a city fan which is most strange dont you think.
